I was using XMM 7.1.2.8.
A new update was available for 7.1.2.9 so I used XMM to download the update.
XMM downloaded the 7.1.2.9 update and I told it to install.
XMM gave me a message saying that "This Database is from an OLD Release of XMM, it will be automatically CONVERTED!"
I clicked on OK and XMM went through the conversion process.
Then it gave another message that the database was an old release and it wanted to convert it again.
I clicked on OK and XMM said there is already an OLD copy of the current database and cannot continue with the conversion - it would load the default database.
I clicked on OK and XMM said the database was from an OLD release and it would convert it.
I clicked on OK and XMM said there is already an OLD copy of the current database and cannot continue with the conversion - it would load the default database.
I clicked on OK and XMM said the database was from an OLD release and it would convert it.

It looks like an endless loop.
I had to use Task Manager to close XMM.

I used Control Panel to uninstall XMM 7.

I am now downloading the 7.1.2.9 full .exe file to re-install.

I hope it works.

By the way:
Why would XMM say the database was from an OLD release when I was using 7.1.2.8 before and was just updating to 7.1.2.9?

Is there any way to get back to release 7.1.2.8?

Hello,

due to some problems with Unicode now the 7.1.2.9 saves the database into windows register instead of config.ini

Probably in the register there was an old link to an old database, this is why XMM try to convert it, but was an old database, not your current one.

Thank you!

Ale

I did what you said - I deleted the registry key.

I started XMM7 and it launched OK with 7.1.2.9.

Deleting the registry key seems to have reset the location for XMM to look for the movie database.

I forgot that I do backups once a week, and I panicked before. But now I copied my last backup into the eXtreme Movie Manager 7\databases folder.

When I opened the current database with 7.1.2.9 it did not try to convert it. Instead it opened OK.

I am missing only the several movies I entered over the weekend - 5 movies I will have to enter again - so that's not too bad. I had forgotten about having the backup. Good thing I do that even though this is the first time I ever had to use a backup file - but it was worth doing the backups. Apparently when XMM7 installed into the existing folder it did delete the contents which included deleting the current database.

I still don't know why 7.1.2.9 wanted to convert the database file when I was going from 7.1.2.8.

I also don't know why it went into the endless loop error.

But it looks like XMM is working OK now. However, I will be cautious for a while. I will probably make backups every day I use it - at least until I am confident that it is not going to do the same thing again.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hello,

Before go back to the previous release please try this.

Open the windows register and delete the "databasefile" key here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\eXtremeMovieManager

Let me know,

Ale

Now I really need some help.

I re-installed XMM 7.1.2.9. It installed into the XMM7 folder that I already had on my hard drive.

When I opened XMM7, it gave me the same message that the database was from an OLD release and it wanted to convert it.

This time, instead of clicking on the OK button I clicked on the small X in the upper right of the window.

XMM opened up, but it opened with the default sample database.

However, it looks like it wiped out the movie database I had in there.

Is it possible that XMM just moved the database to some other place?

I am thinking it must be somewhere because when I opened XMM7 it gave the same message about the old release, which I am assuming was for my current database (although I could be wrong on this).

I had over 500 movies in the database, so it will be a major disaster if it is permanently lost.

Is there any way to get back to 7.1.2.8?

I'm not sure that it was opening the wrong database. When it initially went through the first conversion, I could see some of the movies that were listed as it converted them - although it went by really fast. The movies were the ones in my correct database. So it looks like it was converting the right database.

I don't understand why it was converting it at all since I was only going from 7.1.2.8 to 7.1.2.9.

I also don't know why it went through the endless loop problem.

Properly because it opened the wrong database. I my case it opened after the Update the old example Database... which I haven't opened for a very long time.
