Hello Alessio,

I've just read on Facebook that the programming of extreme books manager has started.
Time to come along with some suggestions:

- Library managment:

The general question is if you want to design the database around the concept of a "real book" or a logical book (i.e. a single entry in the library that may correspond to e-book files in several formats). Maybe it's also interesting to have a author database, too (like the actor's datbase in XMM).

Data Fields that should be available:

Please make an online database to synchronize the books' every information. It can be based on book's file size and checksum.

Well, I will check it tomorrow. I'm now @work - late shift...

@JDommi

No, I mean problems when using the translated language file:

ä, ö and ü are correct, Mawu.
It's related to the google script. The one that Prinz has made shows it right.

The fields like volume, issue etc... are already inside XBM, maybe there is a bug, I will investigate.

Not alle fields are visible. I'm doing the translation right nowand some of the things that are already in the language file are not available in the software.
BTW: XBM seems to have problems with german umlauts (ä,ö,ü)

Sometimes the doubleclick opens the edit window but not always - I haven't found out on which conditions...

Hi Alessio,

correction: I made a new installation and now double click on data entry in grid opens the edit window

Thank you Mawu for the report!

I have a lot of things to do with XBM, especially for eBooks (Scanning HD etc...)

The concept is the "logical" book, you can add as many files and link you want (not like XMM that are only 6).

The fields like volume, issue etc... are already inside XBM, maybe there is a bug, I will investigate.

Thank you again!

Ale

Hello Alessio,

I've just recognized that XBM is available and started some testing. My first impression: as far as the database structure is concerned most of my wishes are fullfilled and for my "real" books it's applicable by now. For ebooks there is still much to do (requests see posting above)

Data Fields are good so far.
Missing: Volume, Issue No., Store Location (it seems to be available according to the column chooser, in edit window I can't find it), Contents (multiple stories, articles, chapters)/table of contents
Also missing: I've many pdf ebooks of a famous german pulp fiction series. All "books" are numbered and therefore it would be useful to have a data field to cover this.

When I've understand, the database follows the concept of a logical book, i.e. a single entry in the library that may correspond to e-book files in several formats that are attached within the "files" tab). The format of this files (=ebooks) should be displayed in the grid and moviecard and there should be a way to filter/sort accordings to this formats. You always have to differentiate between for example real books, ebooks, audio books (-> "format" field) and concerning ebooks between pdf, chm, epub etc.

An author database would be nice (like the actor's datbase in XMM).

When clicking on data entry in grid the edit window should open (according to XMM)

Additional web sources: Amazon, Barnes&Noble, Oreilly, isbndb.com

Request: download book preview pages from Google Books, syncing book collection with Google Library.

maybe it's possible to integrate beside the MagicSript engine also the Z39.50 client–server protocol for searching bibliographic databases on the Internet (like Endnote)

BTW: Translation of the language file will be done during next week.

Bye byte and Happy Coding

Thank you very much Mawu!

I will carefully read your suggestion next weeks. There is still a lot of things to do but I hope to release an alpha soon.

Ale
