I just imported 107 movies in one go and had to "clear all fields and reset import status" and then reimport FIFTY of them due to covers repeating themselves alphabetically in groups of two. i.e "TRON: Legacy" and "Too Big To Fail" (alphabetically next to each other in the list of imports I did) both having the cover for "Too Big To Fail". I also had to reset a lot of covers due to the cover being only partially downloaded, as in only part of the picture showing. XMM has all the right permissions etc and is allowed through the firewall etc, otherwise I wouldn't get the good half of movies that actually import correctly, would I?

I contacted JDommi about this before and you/he tried to be helpful but, in the end, there was basically no solution and I just have to put up with it. I have several new screenshots of the problem but I emailed you similar before and I'm unable to post them here.

I also contacted you about years in brackets in the file name not being reproduced when imported to XMM with (just () rather than (2015), for example) and me having to edit every single file name in XMM just to re-add the year every time I import movies.

Now, I'm really not one to complain, I've refrained from doing so until now and I'm sure Ale, who seems to be a one-man team (?) has a lot of stuff to do, but I thought the whole idea of a forum was for people to list the things that didn't work so that the programmer could fix them?

I often get an update to XMM through the regular update channel but nothing ever actually seems to change.

Is Ale a one-man team? Surely, XMM has sold tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands or even millions, of copies so surely he could employ someone to help him correct obvious faults in the software?

If you can suggest anything, even if it's a fault at my end, then please do so because it's really becoming more hassle than it's worth these days having to import a list of movies, add the year for each one, "clear fields etc" for the ones that have imported wrong, re-import the ones that were wrong and often have to do so several times before I finally get merely the right cover for the right movie. I don't want fanart or all actors etc, I just need description, IMDB rating and the right cover!

I hope you understand my frustration!

Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Please post that a a feature request and send it additionally as mail to Ale.

That's more sure to not be forgotten

And you are right with the poster/cover thing. That was the since the or better my very beginning with XMM but never was a problem to me.
There was a request long time ago for a few more picture categories but unfortunately that never was realized. So this imperfection still exists.

The year in brackets I already have passed to Ale as he is the sole programmer. Same I have to say to deleting folders. Ale should add this option when folder is empty. And then to make a real job of it: delete to trash or erase completely.

If possible, could he make "delete folder too" an option even if the folder's not empty since I use individual folders for each movie and the folders often have a subtitle file in there as well so wouldn't be deleted if it required the folder to be completely empty!

Thanks

Thanks again.

As an update to this. I saw that you (JDommi) said that you only used IMDB (Complete) so I changed the values for that according to my preferences and tried it and it worked perfectly! Well, apart from two of the fifty getting no cover but they're quite obscure movies and that just happens sometimes and can easily be corrected manually without much hassle.

So the problem seems to be with the IMDB (Fastest) script somewhere...

P.S. While changing the different variables I presumed "Poster" meant it would download an image of the original movie poster which was used to advertise the movie involved so set it to 0. However, by doing so XMM updated the movie information but didn't add the covers. As a result, by "Poster" I think you actually mean "Cover". Is that correct? If so, probably best to change it to avoid future confusion for other users since "Poster" and "Cover" are different things in English. Sorry if I'm mistaken but I looked through all the other variables and couldn't see one for "Cover"... :)

Just the year in brackets in the file name translating exactly the same when imported to XMM now and I'll be a happy bunny! :)

While I've got your attention too, when I delete a movie from the database and say yes to XMM also deleting the relevant file, would it be an easy job to make XMM also delete the folder containing the file? At the moment I delete the movie, say yes to deleting the file and then have to go into Windows Explorer and delete the empty folder. I'll stop moaning now! Thanks!

Thanks JDommi. I've sent the screenshots to Alessio.

Thanks for your time. Now back to re-updating movies over and over again... :)

I will forward that problem once again to Ale as I'm not involved in the coding.

Btw. the mail is alessioviti -at- binaryworks.it

What I mean for the years in brackets is that my files themselves are named in the format "Title (Year)". For example, "The Terminator (1984)". However, when I import it into XMM with the relevant settings set correctly, it is imported as "The Terminator ()" so I have to go through re-adding the year for every single title.

I discussed this with you before (JDommi) and you said you were able to reproduce the problem yourself. I realise you can't be expected to remember every conversation you have had with forum users, I wouldn't expect you to, but you said that it was a known issue and even someone with limited knowledge of such things, such as I, don't see it would be that hard to reprogramme XMM so that the file name imported into XMM is EXACTLY the same as the file name of the actual file, year in brackets afterwards included. If it is then please say but can it not simply replicate the exact file name as used on the hard drive itself?

For the duplicate covers (Alessio), I can email you (if you can PM me an email address) screenshots of what I get. I emailed similar screenshots to JDommi a few months ago but he said he couldn't reproduce this problem. I literally get the same cover repeated twice in a row on different films all the way through.

For example, movies 1 and 2 will both have the cover for movie 2, movies 3 and 4 will both have the cover for movie 4, movies 5 and 6 will both have the cover for movie 6 etc etc ad nauseam.

I just want it to work as it used to without having to clear and reimport half the movies I import and, even then, having to repeat the process several times with fewer and fewer titles until I finally have the right covers on the right films. I often have to manually download and add a cover for some titles since they just simply refuse to import correctly.

Is there any way I can completely refresh XMM with NO risk of losing my database? I'm worried that the problem lies within the database itself so I don't think I can just reset XMM. It never used to happen before, it only started about a year ago, so something's just gone wrong somewhere.

However, I once had to reimport my complete collection and update them all after having lost it somehow and that took long enough when I only had about 3,000 titles. I now have over 5,000 and really can't see myself doing it all again as opposed to just giving up...

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello Barns!

I am back to development finally, I will try to make some tests but I haven't see the problem of duplicate covers too (but I must admit to use the IMDB Complete).

I will try to make a big test with the IMDB Fastest this week.

Thank you!

To the IMDB script. I'm just on the way to correct the complete one. Beside some actor's info it already should work correctly. The fastest version is still as is and due to webpage changes it is unusable at the moment. But you can directly deselect some fields in the script options AND in the fields that will be imported (but keep in mind that sometimes different functions are used in the same block!).

The cover problem. I never have recognized wrong covers although there might be some. So I don't know if that's a problem of a buffer or of the script.

Years in brackets. That problem I don't understand. Do you wanna automatically rename the movie files or do these already have the year in brackts and you have to rename the movie in your database?

Is Ale a one-man team? Yes! All other people involved here in the forum like me are "normal" users.

If I have something forgotten - let me know!
