It's been a while since I made some comments on v.8.2.4 here: www.binaryworks.it/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12271&SearchTerms=v8
It's been even more since I made other suggestions that (I think) would improve the workflow.

Waiting, I kept working with v7, for two reasons:
1. Importing from IMDB was better (and at least I could see the titles in the MS window)
2. Editing was much faster.

Since then, 2,5 years have passed, and almost none of the suggestions I made back then were implemented. Most importantly, in v9 we still have very limited right click functionality (compared to v7); and the non customizable Edit window makes editing very very slow. To give an example: For a simple task like setting subtitles, I need to open the Add/Edit, click audio and select from the list - when in v7 I had the proper box in my first Edit tab and just clicked once.

The worst of all, of course, is that, without unicode, scraping IMDb is useless for me in v9 as in v8. Names with special characters are truncated, and even the MS engin window shows illegible garbage when I have to select the proper film. I've even tried VPN but it's not practical.

So where does that get me? XMM is still promising, as it was more than 12 years ago, when I bought it. But versions 8-9, even though more beautiful, have made it worse (for me, at least) than it v7. It seems my only option is to keep working in v7, waiting for the script function to die completely - not an option, really. And seeing that, after so long, none of the suggestions I made were considered, I'm afraid that, hard as it is, it's time I started looking elsewhere.

maybe it's enough without the blank behind title/USA. I didn't have searched as many movies to see all possibilities.
As example there are movies with the USA title and the USA working title...

Thanks
I'll give it a go

So I need to change the script to

#IF# #94#==#11#
#FIND#=English title #20##ONERROR#=*OK*
#ENDIF#

a d if that does nto work to

#IF# #94#==#11#
#FIND#=USA #20##ONERROR#=*OK*
#ENDIF#

Maybe a solution for your title problem:

    #IF# #94#==#11#
        #FIND#=World-wide (English title)#20##ONERROR#=*OK*
    #ENDIF#

Change the #FIND# statement in the script to "English title". If that makes still problems on some movies you have to change it to "USA".

IMDB (fastest): I don't have worked on that script as it always was only a clone of the normal one.

For the other problem I still haven't found a solution. I even don't have any idea...
Rincewindwiz Posted - 19 Nov 2016 : 11:44:24
IMDB script language problems.
No progress on this problem then? (Using a Swiss IP and getting german information imported)
If I access IMDB I get the english version.
If I import via IMDB (fastest) I get the german version
serious irritation.

They are not.
So I changed the folder name and they imported correctly.
Seems clear that XMM was told to ignore that folder.
JDommi Posted - 19 Nov 2016 : 00:08:45
Please check if these movies aren't already in your database.

Device Scanner
So I try to import movies from a different folder.
They all appear. I click add selected movies and everything is fine (once I fond the refresh button!!)
So why cant I import files from this one folder?

Rincewindwiz Posted - 18 Nov 2016 : 22:09:21
The recent mega import from IMDB has resulted in many titles being in " ".
Is there any way I can get rid of the " " (short of using Access)?
Rincewindwiz Posted - 18 Nov 2016 : 22:07:16
I always start from Add Movie->Movies From Files (device Scanner)
And it is only folder S 939. other folders work!!
JDommi Posted - 09 Nov 2016 : 10:43:53
Really strange!

Did you have tested it also with the function "Add Movie" -> "From Files (DeviceScanner)"?
For me that has always worked.

Beside that in my opinion it's faster to check the option "Do NOT Read Codecs During Scanning...".

For the filters: best to ask Ale himself... I don't use them often enough.

Filters Not true. See example quoted above when you change CatNo from 937 to 938 or Alphabetic from A to B. I neither case do you have to delete the original filter. Having got it right in this case, it should not be hard to get it right in the general case.

FileScanner Nope. 2 days and 3 restarts later the files are not there.
The directory (Folder List) is there \939\. Below that is
Scan File:\path\moviename.avi - (0)[0] (no idea what (0)[0] mean).
I can 'start search' - which produces a little flash including a red button which I think says stop but nothing changes
I can try
Choose - to pick the directory. Simply adds another \939\ to the folder list
I can 'right click' and 'select manually' and select the 6 files in the directory \939\ (A folder on a local HDD)
Click Open and a little blue i flashes by engine Status. Hover produces 'Device Scanner Busy. New Movies found.' Promising. That was at 17:52 and at 19:35 it is still flashing. Something is not quite right!!!

So what have I done wrong this time?

JDommi Posted - 07 Nov 2016 : 20:21:56
Filters: Not disappointing! Filters are always used on the movies that are shown in the grid at that moment. It's the used concept. Think: when the actual filter is automatically cleared it would be wrong for those who are expecting the use of filters the other way . Once you know the technique you will quickly be fit in using them.

DVDEmpire: I think the other 2 versions even don't work on any movie titles anymore...

FileScanner: On my small collection the device scanner blocks sometimes a few minutes every new operation. Keep a little patience and it should work again.
These automatic functions (like the update, too) will open the window but places it behind the main window what must be a matter of Windows as it occurs since Win7. So you have to bring it to the front again.
The ignore function is only temporarily. On the next start of XMM it will be back.
Rincewindwiz Posted - 07 Nov 2016 : 19:37:32
Filters Disappointing!

DVDEmpire There are only 2 DVDEmpire scripts in v9 and I used the Full (as opposed to minimal) version. Not to worry, its just an irritation rather than important.

File Scanner. This worked once but now does not. I started XMM9 which proudly told me I had new movies. (Actually most had already been imported). It took ages to find out how to get rid of that list) but now that it has gone, I cant scan/read the directory I was originally trying to add to the collection

So, Add Movies->Device Scanner
I have one folder (the one I want) in the folder list so I click 'Start Search' Pretty much nothing happens. Certainly no list of files to select from.

So I try select Manually, navigate to the directory, select the files and click Open. Nothing happens

There is a message bottom left which says Device Scanner New Movies found but there is no sign of them

I try a different directory and this works fine. Maybe I clicked 'ignore these files' by accident but if I did, how do I 'unignore' them?

Let's begin at the end...

Bizarre I think Ale has "played" a little with the movie card. After a full installation I had multiple distortions on the movie_bigcover card. I have re-installed the previous release and then updated XMM by the internal update function. That has solved most issues. As example some colours (hyperlinks) are still different from my original colours. But I think that is a matter of any windows update that came the same time.

Quickedit fields I still haven't heard anything from Ale since the last XMM update.

Filters Any filter is depending on the previous selected one. You have to clear it always before using another one.

DVDEmpire There are several DVDEmpire scripts in my own script folder. Definitly the blueray and the dvd ones are obsolete. I had updated the script as (minimal) that worked fine a few monthes ago. Beside the fixing I had removed some fields that are really unimportant and could be get by other scripts better. The UPC code problem I think is a matter of the site itself. While repairing the search I had a feeling that the provided upc codes are sometimes different from the ones that are provided by imdb as example. But I haven't worked more on the differences.
Script Used and WebImported is a matter of XMM itself as the scripts do not get or store these fields.
The link for re-importing - as I still don't have worked on this function in neither script I can't say anything to. For that I don't have any idea about this special function. I always have passed that to Ale...

If only!! Actually took just under 3 days (as in 70 hours!) but it does seem to have worked. Had to use an UK IP address to avoid the foreign titles.

DVDEmpire I had to import a few from DVDempire. The script
1. Does not find a title from the UPC code
2 Does not appear to update the script used field
3 Does not appear to update the webimported field
4 Does not appear to retain any sort of link that would allow the script to find the item again

Filters Dont work as well as they used to. Selecting form Treeview does nto clear a previous treeview filter if another filter has been added. So, for example
Treeview select CatNo 937 - fine
Treeview select CatNo 938 - 937 is replaced with 938 - fine
I add a filter IMDBLINK contains 'imdb' - and it works fine
Then I Treeview select CatNo 937 - and I get nothing because the filter now says Cat = 937 AND CatNo = 938.
The second treeview select did not clear out the first one.

Quickedit fields Any news on making these fields available in the quickedit view

Bizarre In the detail pane (RH side) I now have a valid link to the movie Duke of Burgundy immediately under the picture and above the Seen/Marked icons It replaces teh black strip containing seen, marked, my rating. And ALL movies have this link!! I shut down XMM, start it up and its still there!! If I follow the link to Duke of Burgundy the spurious link disappears

Stil a bunch of tedious non-sexy work to be done to make this robust and, at the end of all that its not (IMHO of course) a great improvement on v7 (thought it is a lot quicker to start up)

Reset import status: Didn't seem to do anything (webimported still ticked after running this) so I used Access to untick the web imported field

I dont exactly know what I have done but IMDB script is running much faster. Looks like it will complete in under 24 hours.
