In V9 i am only getting the database view not the old ribbon view and i cant find an option to change it ? |

Try this:
1. Go to Files -> Options -> General and make sure that the layout is not freezed.
2. Go to View -> Reset Layout.
3. Now setup again everything as you want it.
By the way the TreeView can be hided by scrolling to the side. You click on the pin icon in it's titlebar. |

I really seem to be a blockhead...
What sidebar do you mean? For me there is no difference between gridview and thumbview nor between old XMM7 and the actual one. |

Sorry, but I don't have a clue of what you are speaking exactly.
Do you mean the thumbview/gridview? Or do you think of the menu bar on top?
Please try to explain it again.
