Would it be possible to add another function in the Advanced Tools | Actors Function area? Specifically a function which would go through each Movie's list of Actors and if the Actor ID is missing but the Actor Name is available, to locate the name within the Actor DB and place the Actor ID into the Movie record where its missing.

For some reason XMM or the Script(s) being used at that time, will not Add or Update the Actor ID number if the column for the name of the role that the Actor played is empty. Not having the Actor ID causes a great deal more trouble than not having the name of the role the Actor played. Specifically when it comes to the Actor's Filmology.

Having such a function would do a number of valuable things. The first being to have the correct information within XMM as well as insuring the accuracy of the Filmology reports. Perhaps more importantly, it will notify the user that one of more of their Movies has incomplete Actor information. It is far easier for a user to add the role name of the Actor's then it is for the user to look-up the Actor's ID. And if for some reason, the Actor is not in the Actor DB to start with, it would be much easier for XMM to add the Actor and get a new Actor ID then is the user tried to do it.

I hope you will consider this request worth adding to your already long list of action items.

You bring up a good point JDommi about multiple Actors with the same name being a problem. But isn't it a problem already? I mean when everything is working, the Actor Name from the website is where the problem of Multiple Actor's with the same name would originate. XMM is just dealing with what it gets.

What were trying to do is provide an automated way of 1) filling in the missing Actor ID information using existing XMM data in a manner the user would normally have to do manually. and 2) notify the user that the Actor information for one of their Movies is missing information and they need to fix it. While we can put in the Actor ID for the user, the user still needs to populate the 'Role Name' field for that Actor.

We could constrict the update feature to only updating Actor ID's of existing Actor's in the DB and not doing any adds.

Yes, that's a feature I have asked for, too.
Except of the ActorID you can add those missing actors with the plugin "Actors Cleaning". It's a little tool to extract the actors on your movies that are not in the actors database, find double entries, etc.

I also like this feature. I have been doing the add actors manually into the db and also manually into the add/edit movie actor field. Because I am not doing them at the same time many of them are not linked because I'm not or do not have an actor id at the time. I'm going to probably want the ability to compare and or merge records in the future.
A reply to an earlier actor db post: I also would like the actor database to be able to pull from existing movies. I have manually added non imdb movie actors to the add/edit actor fields. They show up in a search but not the actor db.

Good idea.
Only difficulty: you have to make sure that there are no same names on different actors. So this would only be possible if the actor's link is identical.
On only added names without any info or by using a different script? On this case the whole check would be impossible!
