Hi there,

happy new year to all etc, I hope you're not as hungover as I am :D

Here is my problem for you all :)

My mate has Extreme Movie Manager v4.8b1. I am wanting to purchase the latest version from yourself for my own uses as it is certainly worth the money, however I am wanting to import my friends database for myself, but when trying to import as a test using one of the slightly early (still v5.summat about 2months ago) demos, I could not get all the info I want imported. For this reason he hasn't updated his version yet also.

The way our previous database is stored, is just for regular movies...added in the regular manner. Adding just the movie titles in itself is no problem, however the problem is in the way they have been catalogued in reference to the case they are in.

He stores the movies in some large cases, so they are given a code, A42, B56, for example.

Because in 4.8 and earlier, we could see no specific box relating to a 'location code' so we used the field "No. CD" as altough it is meant for a different purporse, it can mean the same thing...and is not overwritten when importing from imdb etc.

The trouble we have however when trying to import into 5.x is that we are unable to keep that "No. CD" data. It would take many many hours to retype every single disc number in, so that isn't an option.

Is there any way to do a full import, keeping movie info, covers etc...and have movie manager automatically take the value from No. CD and put it in the correct place for v5. I hope so as this problem has held me back from purchasing the product.

thanks,
Tuck

Hi,

Sorry for my late reply!

I am really happy that you like the new release so much, you cannot image how much I have work on it last year.

About the cover's folder, I have decide to make one for every database because tons of users ask for this function.

Thank you again.

many thanks Alessio - that did the job brilliantly.

I've just noticed that the new database is compatable with my version of Access....if only I'd have thought to try an older version myself I could have saved you some time.

I really appreciate your help on sorting my database for me.

I've also finally had time to take a look at the new version of the movie manager. I LOVE IT!!!! I love how you have added the trailers button, and just the general layout is a great improvement over 4.8, it really is a work of it.

And of course, now that I have verified it is working fine for me, I've just gone and bought it for myself. Eagerly awaiting the activation code :) whoops - spoke too soon - its in the inbox now :D

One small problem I had, was in 4.8 all the covers were stored in 1 folder, for my 3 databases. Now I see they are stored seperately. A shame, as it would take forever to sort them into respective folders, however its a good opportunity for me to just do a full tidy up and reimport my movie info and covers. Its worth doing just to get the new info such as the trailer links anyways.

again many thanks Alessio - hope you're feeling better now,
Tuck

awesome thank you - I hope it doesnt take you too much time. Perhaps a future feature should be to allow somebody to replace items in field A, with tho contents of Field B....just like the problem I've had :) We'll remember to store the location in the correct field in future :)

Many thanks Alessio. Your reply is very quick, thank you very much.

I am zipping the file now. It is still quite large however, so I hope it will still be ok. I will need to send them from my ntl email address as I believe hotmail has size limits.

There are actually 3 files, 1 for games, movies, and adult. I presume you still want them in the 4.8 format.

If you have a way to quickly change the field that was used from "no.cds" to catalogue or dvdid so that it can be imported properly then that will be excellent. If it is too much of a problem and cannot be done then do not worry about it as I am still more than happy with your excellent 4.8.

many thanks,
Paul Tucker

Hi,

Sorry for my late reply and good year to everyone!

The correct field in 5.x to store this info is "CatalogNo".

At this time there isn't a way to *automatically* put the "No. CD" in the "CatalogNo" field, but if you send to me your database (ZIP it first!) I can do it manually for you.

Bye!

Alessio
