I have found that I some actors have a double appearance in my database; although slightly different names, they are the same person. Is there a way of merging the records to include all the hyperlink information to the movies in the database? |

I have done this with over 6,000 actors from IMDB and it does work. IMDB is not perfect and there are a few mistakes on their site but with a bit of googling I can usually sort it out. The hardest bit is to gather all the correct photos from the actors that have no picture |

I don't think there is a easy solution, because there is no universal identifier (for all websites, ...) for actors. If one adds such a function there has to be merge function, because many times you simply have tell the program that 2 Names are the same Person a least onces.
It's really a difficult thing to do in practical way. |

How can that be realized? First thought that came in my mind was something similar to the boxsets. But this id of the alias-set doesn't identify automatically all actors I think.
But maybe there is an easy solution that I don't see at the moment... |

Like he said: A real Alias System would be good, especially for Adult Actor, but even for normal Actors. I know more than 1 Actress that changed her Name simply because she got married. So 2 different Names are the same Person and both are correct.
Of course with Adult Actors/Actresses it's much worse because these have many times a few sometimes even completely different names. |

I know that IMDB shows the correct name and id on those actors.
As example: Roger Lloyd-Pack (Waiter (as Roger Lloyd Pack)) |

It's possible for this to occur even when using only one script. The actor may have one or more aliases, some of them being almost his/her real name, but with one character altered or added, spaces as well as letters. For example, one of the characters in the CSI:Miami TV series is played by an actress whose credits appear as Eva La Rue, though her real name is Eva LaRue.
The use of aliases is especially true of actors in the adult movie industry - many of them have a number of aliases, and they may use different ones in different films they appear in.
I also have this problem, particularly with adult movie actors - I wonder whether there is a unique identifier (such as an ID number) used by both IMDB and the new adult movie actor database at
www.pornstardata.com ? |

Yes, I would like to get to this, too. As I get information from 2 sites, XMM imports names of actors as they appear there. So I end up with one actor in two items. |
