OK I understand some of what this program can do, but the presentation is very difficult. I know other Movie Managers and thought this would do more. There in little or no documentation or the documentation does not apply to Version 8 where the layout is very different.
Is it expected that the user is supposed to find out how this program works through tedious trial and error?
Things are supposed to update to IMDB but they don't. I have all the information about a movie in my ripped files but EMM8 doesn't take the information. I have a few thousand movies but to update them manually and check for all the falsely downloaded information will take weeks
All I want is a program that can scan my folders, organize them with Data and then allow me to open them with a click.
I would like to use the program - I am about 8 hours into it and still do not have a basic grip on how to use it.
I am really sorry to hear that. We have try to design XMM 8 to be more user friendly than 7, but all the functionality and features is not easy to handle.
We are always try to make it simpler and simpler.
I suggest you to watch these short videos that show you how to add and import movies inside XMM:
Thank-you for answering so promptly! I understand the manual addition of a film. It is a little time consuming for a collection. I am more interested in using the "scan devices" method. After entering the locations of the films and running the scan, 95% of the movies come up with no information about the movies, no date, no actors no covers etc. When I select a group and run the script to access imdb.com (I've tried both)I have about a 65% hit rate - even with films correctly spelled. For the rest I run the script again and use amazon.com as the information source. If Amazon does find the film it changes the title to "amazon.com,title,actors etc." This is a step backwards, so I delete the information and try the other databases. But imdb is a source that has all the information. XMM doesn't seem to pick it up. Then I have to manually try to add the information by copy and paste from all over the internet. There must be an easier way. Thanks again :)
