Hi Guys,
I have upload in the registered user's area the new alpha 7.
I have finish almost all features, I have left only few things to do. The new release seem to be stable, there are left some little bugs, so PLEASE report it, so I can fix it.
I am working to optimize some part of code (to speed up the movie loading).
The first official beta is really near now, I need to make manuals, video tutorials, moviecards and script.
Everyone that want help me in writing(converting) scripts and make new nice moviecards are welcome!!

hi alessio,
and thank you for the update ... EMM gets better and better ;)
i have some ideas for you ...
1. the multiple changes should be solved in other way i think .... there should be a possibility to change things in all possible fields.it could work like this: select some movies in the grid:
a. right click on one of the movies --> select the multiple change manager --> a window opens with pulldown menus where i can choose the database field which should be changed in all selected movies. in a second pulldown i can choose something (FORMAT, NUMBER OF DICS ....) or i can write a text into a text field ....
b. i know a movie manager where you can make the multiple changes directly in the grid (you select some movies and then the fiel/column you want to change .... )
2. after loaning a movie out the grid does not refresh automatically .. i think it shoud :)
3. if a movie is marked the row should be marked too(COLOUR or ICON or something).
4. inserting a cover from clipboard works but:
a. the cover is not displayed in the moviecard
b. it should work through right click on a dataset / movie directly and also through the right click in the edit window ...
5. there should be a quick search field right to the EXIT icon
a. is it possible to search also in the other fields (CATALOGNR, DIRECTOR ....)?
6. i canīt scroll in the search panel if itīs opened ... perhaps it would be usefull to make the left panel on the left to the bottom of the window ... what do you think?
7. the pulldown to choose the moviecards could also be placed right to the QUICK EDIT VIEW .. it would save some space
8. i cantīt find the CVS import ... :)

5a: I must improve the search very much, for now it's really poor.
8: The CSV import it's on Movies Add menu (I have forget to add in the import menu)

Hi Alessio,
although i'm busy at the moment I found some time to play a little bit with the new alpha. Here some very first impressions.
1. I can't create a new database (Message: Default databse do not exist anymore! Example Database will be loaded)
2. Import of old database: Screen Ratio and Starring are not imported, MovieID is wrong and IDs are not in the right order, Date Last loan/Date Seen/Date Purchased are 01.01.1900, Date Of Insert/Last Modify has the import date.
3. Display in grid is a little bit slow with many movies
4. How to diplay all actors in database at once?
So that's all for the moment. More testing end of next week when I'm back from a conference (maybe I'll find some time to read the new MagicScript manual )

1- I have forgeto to rename the file under the "configuration" folder, it must be "empty.mdb" instead of "example.mdb"
2- About Old Database import: can you ZIP and send your DB to me? because I have some problem in converting the Date (in 4.8 these fields was "String", now I have converted to numbers)
3- I am trying to speed up the loading process...
4- At this time is possible only with search (just left the search textbox empty), but I will add another way (eve if, loading 20.000 will be slow I think)

Hello Alessio,
I have a bug I have forgotten to submit in previous alpha version. When I import movie from CD/DVD or by search on HD, the title include the file extension of the movie.
For exemple, if my file is name "movie.avi", when I import it, the title will be "Movie Avi" and not only "Movie" as in the version 4 of XMM.

Great job!
I have lots of suggestions and some bug reports here for you:
BUGS:
1. When I imported movies and actors from my old db movies where transered ok but there are NO ACTORS! Personaly I don't use actors db and I don't care but I want to have credit list of movies seen! In new tab starring there is nothing. In future - is it possible to have starring tab filled but not actors db? [Fixed in Alpha8. OK, will be possible not populate actors database]
2. I got blank little window over cover field? [Fixed in Alpha8.]
3. When I squeeze first left window - GROUP BY tab is going away[It's not going away, just press the little down arrow at right, should appear again]
ADDS:
4. In My Movies tab there is Movies Database - there can be Animations and Documentaris and Short films??
a) I have really big database (3700) - it would help to categorise it like this - there a lots of short films...
b) Personal rating is so different between these categories
c) These categories are basic categories even on film festivals
It should be all inserted in one DB file so it would be easier to insert films and of course it should be possible to see it all together in one list.
5. What happened with Quick Find (when you type letters in list...)?
That was VERY useful!
CHANGES:
6. I prefer Quick Edit View by default if not it should be in preferences. Movie cards look cheap and ugly and they load far more longer. (In XMM 1,2,3,4 it was vice versa - why chage that really?)
[In alpha 8 XMM remeber the last tab you open, so will be opened always the quickedit. The Actual MovieCards must be rewritten with better graphics, this is why are ugly and not working at 100%]
7. Personal rating it is one of the best thing you changed - I like it very much and it works perfect, looks perfect and it is fun. BUT: There are 10 points which is 5 stars - great but -there is a problem when I want to give something ZERO stars and that CAN'T be the same as NO STAR at all. If I Group films by Personal Rating I have most films in 0 stars but there a lot of films I haven't seen and films I didn't rate. I suggest a White Star or Black star or transparent star! (Don't you just want to give some bad films black star?) :)
[For really bad films there is the half-star, that is the low value of rating. Maybe I can change this half star with a black star, I will take a look]
8. When sorting by Directors is it possible to sort by surnames?
9. Too big TAGLINE field (Not so important though...)
10. When adding movie there is no more Media Type roll down?
I guess these are only for now! :) I am also looking forward to see allmovie.com script!

1. About those stars... I would really prefer that you leave that half star as it is! I like that half! You can just add a black star - not as rate but as warning for bad one!  Just to separate those not rated from "zero" (black) rated. That's all!
2. About those My movies... my documentaries, my... Maybe it should be user defined!? For example some people would like to use more categories for example adult films or home movies... anyway as My Series I think these would be essential!
2. I know that Group By button can be accessed by that tiny arrow I just ment that it would look nicer if title somehow stays there... really not important - esthetic!
I will keep testing!

I think that this error is related to Internet Explorer protection (because if I try to load the MovieCards in IE you can see that IE "block" the code of MovieCars).
I don0t know exactly how to fix this problem, I will take a look.

Maybe its only me, cause i havent seen anyone else reporting that.
I imported my old db (about 2700 titles and 35000 actors) and i was playing around, i didnt do something in particular. Just playing with the grid on the left display by genre/year, changes like that. I tryied 3 times and all of them xmm freeze. Weird thing is that in task manager, suddenly 2 xmm appeared running (one of the times). I couldnt do anything but end task from there. Cpu was 100%. Maybe its only me, but as far as i can see, it always freeze for me. I never had such a problems with the 4.8 or previous versions.
Anyway i hope its something the final version will solve for me |

I have solve this by adding the "Edit Multiple" function. When you select more movies and press "Edit Multiple", the edit window will appear and all changes you made will be saved in all selected movies.

Here is what i do.
Open xmm with my imported db.
on the left is Group by: Year
I click on the first year (1925) and using the down arrow on the keyboard to go down the year folders. If i press it for too long, or too quick up or down a message appears on the bottom says
3705!Operation is not allowed when the object is open.
Middle table's (grid) side bar get immediatly too small and xmm freeze with cpu at 100%

Hi, Alessio!
Sounds good compromise to me. But then it should be made with in advance defined categories (example: Documentary, Animation, Short and Adult) which you can choose which to show and which not and in combinations easily! So if I want to list everything except Short and Adult I should be able to do it easily, for example unclick those categories somewhere.
Nevertheless I just to make myself clear on this original suggestion one more: In TAB "My Movies" now there is some yellow icon (which looks like spindle of golden CDs to me but with much imagination :)) which says Movie Database. In first place I thought in THAT TAB there could be another Database for example "Animation Database" right belove Movie Database at same time. So there would be no need for another tabs... I don't know is it complicated to make but maybe those two ideas can make something good out of it... What do you think?
P.S.
In middle window where the titles and ID numbers there is also Personal Rating which cannot be sorted! And it would be good it could!
