Ever since I connected my NMT device I can't update from themoviedb.org. Engine flashes then goes away.

Do you already have tried to make a doubleclick on the script engine emblem bottom right of the main window?
I always have the problem that the update window always disappears behind the main window.
In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.

Not sure I understand. Nothing has disappears behind the main window.

And the doubleclick does not help, too?
Does it work as soon as you disconnect the NMT?
I only can say my thoughts as I don't have an NMT...

How did you connect it? Sorry if that sounds stupid but I really haven't worked with such a device. Only via USB.
But I would disable all automatic recognotions under XMM.
