Some other initial thoughts and observations.

To be fair, it was all looking quite promising and there were some nice bits and pieces. But here, pretty much in the sequence it happened, is what happened

1. It says (when converting XMM7 Db that its better to import the actors in XMM8 but I cant see how to do that?! How do I get all the actors into the database and associated with the films?

2. A large number of covers never came across (maybe 200 or so identified by filter cover is blank. IN XMM7 all movies have covers.)

3. Some of the (less important bits of) the old data never came across
- There is nothing on the video panel (codec, bitrate, etc etc)
- Nothing on the custom page (which may be correct?)
- none of the custom fields come across
and so on
But I would be quite happy to import it all again if only . . . .

I get the impression there was more data in version 7 than has come across - apart from just the actors

4. Treeview got screwed up. I added catalog as a custom tree view (nice and neat and easy) but alphabetic (one of the most important) then disappeared. When I add title (cant find anything called alphabetic) as a custom treeview, Title still doesn't appear. Maybe there is a maximum number of entries under database? Anyway I unticked a few I was not interested in and Title appeared (which is not s convenient as Alphabetic which I thought I had before).

5. Pity you cant easily see the actors in a film. It used to be a tab on the panel on the right or is there some hidden way to do this?

6. How can one easily remove all fonts from Quickedit and just show plan text in a font of ones choosing?

7. Real problems here updating from the web.
I was rather expecting to have a couple of nights where I set it off to download stuff from the web.

Well a test movie (with an IMDB reference)
No category
No length
Rating not updated
No plot
No tagline
No awards
Studio wrong
No distributor
No keywords
and so on.

In the title it put "Talking Pictures" in front of the real title. I mean honestly!!!

So a final attempt.
I selected all movies for which the cover has not come across. Quick update (because I cant find any other update) and off we go. They ALL have IMDB references and IMDB as last used script.
Message - I've selected TV shows and movies but no clue as to which ones it does not like (Why not highlight the ones it does not like?)

So selecting TV shows and scanning reveals the problem. I select the rest

And off it goes . . . .
3 movies later it stops.
I have the movie The Guest (2014) with an imdb reference number http://akas.imdb.com/title/tt2980592 pointing to The Guest (2014)
and its asking me to chose between The Guest (2014) and The Guest House (2102) and a bunch of other movies that dont even have the word 'guest'.

This is simply not practical with several thousand movies to process. Come on this is not hard. XMM hs an IMDB link why does it simply not take the data from the link?

To update my collection will require me to sit at the computer for several days. That's just daft! But at least when it is updated those few fields that are updated work OK.

8 Actors
A bunch of actors have appeared but I didn't check to see if they were imported form XMM7 of have just been created. Anyway, most dont have photos, no ages, no DoB

And just exactly how am I supposed to get the actors in if it cant look up the movie reliably?

I think you should give it another try with XMM8. The IMDB script still is not 100% working but last week I have started to correct everything.
I will try tomorrow to give you a more detailed help on your points.
Please write me an email about the points you have problems with.

Hello Rincewindwiz,

I can understand your disappoint, I am trying to go back to development of XMM and all other software. As you know there are tons of things to do and update, so I don't know when will be ready.

Thank you for your patience in these years!
