XMM 6.2.3.0  seems to be very sensitive to where it expects to find its various files – i.e. the database, the actual movies, the scripts, movie covers, actors, etc. This has become a real problem for me because I keep “My Documents” on one of my network drives, the actual movies files on another and the OS files on the computer’s hard drive. XMM seems to want to find everything on the computer’s hard drive – i.e. the C:\ drive. As long as I don’t add or change anything, XMM works find, but when I add a movie by searching my hard drives and navigating to the network drive where movies are stored things begin to go wrong. The import works as it should, but when I try to use the one of the scripts to download data about the movie, XMM can not find the scripts, exits and resets. I then have to restart XMM, reload the database (instead of the default) and go through the “customizing” procedures again.
It would seem that if there was a XMM setup option to designate where the various files were found the problems would go away. As I recall (and may be completely wrong) wasn’t there such an option in the 4 series? |

While I originally thought that my problem just caused me to have to reset my customizations. I have now found that when I import a new movie from one of my network drives, not only are the scripts not found, but when I restard XMM and reload the database, the scripts do not add the actor names to the actor database. If I manually add an actor already in the database, the name is duplicated. Further, when looking for the films for a selected actor, movies added from the network drives are not included. These problems did not seem to be present in version 6.2.2.0 (using the registery for configuration?).
Is there any chance that XMM will include an option for selecting the location - C:\, network drive, another partition, different file name, etc. - for the various files XMM needs to work. As it stands now, XMM only partially works in my environment. |

Hi Allen,
I haven't make tests about have all XMM in a network folder. I am out now, I will try this next week. It should work, it's strange that everytimt you exit XMM will stop work. All configuration is stored in the window register.
XMM use the "DocumentsPathReal" variable to know the path of all the subdirectories.

Thank you, I'll give your suggestion a try. I will also try making changes to the Config.ini file that reflect my network locations to see if that works.

I've changed the "DocumentsPathReal" variable to include ‘C:\’ in the path and done the same on other variables that did not contain the C:\ designation in their paths. (Previously they were only showing '\Net_Files\Allen\etc' they now show ‘C:\Net_Files\Allen\etc’). I also eliminated the config.ini file - causing XMM to rely on the registry for its information? I added a test movie from the network location and XMM seems to be responding correctly. This change still leaves the XMM system files on the C:\ drive. I'll try to change the registry variables to reflect their network locations and see if that works - this may take a bit of time, however, as I want to be real careful when making multiple changes to the registry. |

Further Update:
After backing up the system registry, I edited the XMM section to reflect the network locations of the various files and folders - replacing the C:\ disignation with the actual network address ("\\Net_Files, etc."). That did not work - XMM could not find the files and folders it needed and would not start, but displayed the error message saying it could not find certain file paths. Each of my network drives is mapped with a drive letter, so I edited the registery to reflect these drive letters (instead of "\\Net_Files\My Documents\etc." I used "Z:\eXtreme Movie Manager\etc"). That worked so now XMM once again works with my network drives. I guess I should add that the config.ini file has been removed from the XMM installation folder - causing XMM to rely on the registry for information (I guess).
Here's a quick rundown on how I have XMM configured:
- XMM executable is on my C:\ drive (C:\Additional Programs\)
- XMM "My Documents" files and folders are on my network Z:\ drive (Z:\ is mapped to "My Documents")
- The actual movies are on the network M:\ drive (M:\Internet Movies\) |
