Hey all!

I'm switching over from Movie Collector because ver 6 will only import data from Collectorz.com, and no others. I also don't like their cumbersome Boxsets and Episodes support either ...
so, ..... here I am!!

The first thing I need to do is import my (Movie Collector) Collection of almost 1200 movies. Would someone please provide the best way of doing this?

Thanks again, . hope to be posting more in the next days and weeks, ... and eventually to the point of being able to help others as well!

take care
Allen

Hi,

I am uploading the new 6.5.3.0, will be online in few minutes.

Please try to import the Collectorz database. You must go in "File" -> "Import" -> "From XML", then select the XML file that you have exported with Collectorz.

Please do this in a fresh database and let me know what do you get.

If works correctly I will make a shot video to explain how it works.

Of course not all informations are imported (like actors etc...) this because it's better if you import again with IMDB to let xmm rebuild the database.

To import the info from IMDB just select all movies, then import with IMDB. The script will automatically found the correct movie if it was imported from IMDB with collectorz.

Thank you,

Alessio

Ok , that worked! but I'm missing some of the fields, as you said, .. plus I'm missing the 'movie file' and some others.

What's the best method for getting these fields into my databasee? I imagine that just doing a CSV export from MoC , then importing into EMM.

By the way, I'm the guy who did the My Lil Movie Jukebox (see my sig), .. and I hope to one day be able to do the same thing using EMM!! :)

Hi Allen,

Can you please send to me your XML database? (also few movies are OK, just for an example because I have few fields).

I must go now, tomorrow I will take a look at your project!

Thank you!

I concur. I saw Allen's jukebox and other jukebox and ordered the PCH. I am currently playing with another jukebox solution that supports XMM.

Way to go...Thanks Allen and Alessio for working together on this.

OK Guys, I will focus my work on this.

Allen, can you wrote me some information? What exactly I have to do in order to let XMM be compatible with your system?

I will try this morning to take a more deeply look to MovieJukeBox

Thank you

Ale

The best thing you could do now, ... is make the XML import fill in all fields, including the movie files.

I need to learn more about XMM before I can tell you what's needed.

thanks again

As another PCH/MLMJ user I really dislike the direction Collectorz is going in, getting more proprietary and reducing functionality. So I'm switching to XMM along with Legion455. I checked out XMM features and they certainly look attractive, I even paid for it already (I think the price is very fair).

Now, if only I could import my Movie Collector database... I exported it as XML from MC v5.6b build2, but when I try to import the file using XMM's "Import Movie Collector (XML)" feature - none of the entries get any data at all, and their number is wrong - I'm exporting 411 entries but there are 685 imported blank entries in XMM. My guess would be that XMM is not parsing my exported xml correctly.

XMM seem to support unicode in Plot field which is a huge plus for me, same for mdb database format. I hope I can get this export/import thing working :)

Edit: it worked on a second try :) I did re-export, then re-import and that worked OK. Ability to get info from internet sources using script chains is awesome.

It would be really nice if more information could be imported from Movie Collector, especially file locations and media types, it's going to be very painful to re-point every movie entry to a correct file/files again. But that info is already in MC database and present in exported XML file, so it should probably be possible to import it into correct fields in XMM.

Hi Cur8or,

thank you very much for choose XMM instead of Collectorz, I will really try to make everything for give to user the best, and not "cut off" features

I am trying to find another way for import info from collectorz, maybe by CSV, I will make some tests during this weekend.

About XMM, from next release you will be able to insert directly the UPC/EAN of a DVD, BluRay etc... and import all info automatically from AMAZON.COM, AMAZON.DE, AMAZON.FR and AMAZON.CA (so many languages are covered )

I think you will be also able to use barcode scanner, they just have to work in "Keyboard-emulation"

Thank you again!!

I believe Movie Collector can only export as XML or HTML, there is no option to export as CSV. And they use propriatory database, so you probably can't import directly.

Right now from my perspective the highest priority is to be able to import all of the fields from MC xml export into XMM database, including file locations. Most of my movies reside on my file server and NAS server that I can stream from via PCH. For MLMJ to function correctly corresponding movies in my database have File Location field, for some of them multiple file location fields if they are series/boxsets.

That information does get exported from MC to xml file, it's just a matter of mapping it.

Something that would probably take a long time to implement would be the ability to customize field mapping on import, but to actually switch from MC to XMM - XMM should be able to map all the fields from MC xml export automatically.

Overall I'm sure you'll be able to catch up to MC functionality, but in my perspective the future is not in the physical media, and I think other media streamer device users would agree :)

Hi Allen and cur8or,

If you want, tomorrow I can send the latest release of XMM I am working on, to check if the importer from XML works correctly.

If you want it please write me an email to alessioviti -at- binaryworks.it

At this time I doesn't import actors and director, this because it's really important that you make a "mass" import from internet, with IMDB, when you have finish to import the XML.

The update should be automatically, this because the IMDB is already on the custom8 field, so you will not select any link.

As I write, it's important because XMM can rebuild the actors database correctly with also the pictures of actors.

Thank you,

Alessio

New to the program, just purchased. I imported Movie Collector db (all movies on DVD) today and have a problem. I use the episode fields in Movie Collector for scenes with a description for each. 2600 of 3000 were imported as TV shows (I'm thinking because the epispde field was filled in). Hope there is something easy to fix this. Like I said I'm a newbie so be easy on me.

Thanks
