Hi Alessio,
Your cataloger might interest to some Retro Gamers, specially if they play and collect in different platforms. There's a lot of gamebases/launchers catalogers, but they are specific for each platform. Collectorz has Game Collector which basically is the same thing XGM. But you offer much more scripts than Collectorz. And in this case I would suggest besides using general gaming sites for collecting data you should also use specific sites for specific platforms. I've seen that you already add a script from a good site for C64, the gb64. I believe that part of the success of XGM might relies how you can attract the Retro Gamer market. |

Hi Vpaulus,
Yes, you are right, I think that most of success can be achieved also with retrogames (I am in the team of GB64 )
I will try to add the script for old consoles soon, with the help of the other people here.
Thank you and please speak about eXtreme Games Manager in good forums, no one knows XGM right now.

Good to know you're a retro gamer too, at least a C64 one. I had one for two years, and have played there one of the best computer games. Elite.
What I'd like to suggest you is to consider in expanding a little the XGM concept. Why not turn the XGM into a multiplatform launcher? Of course it will remain a cataloger also, but it could be a launcher too of the emulation software. I don't remember any software that can do that in a multiplatform terms. |

Hi,
This is exactly what I want to do
inside the database there are already some fields for launch directly the game, like the ExtrenalEXE, EXEParameters and FileLink.
I must try to make a thing that works for any old console, and it's not so easy because emulators have a lot of options.
Thank you! |

I believe it won't be easy, because from emulator to emulator there are a lot of different options, as you already know. Probably you'll have to restrict an emulator to each platform. That EXEParameters might be important, we know that some games only run with certain parameters. Basically your idea is to turn the GB64 to a multiplatform, with the aesthetic of XMM. In another word, it will work like a front end to the different emulators. Am I right?
Do you know MESS emulator? I really don't know if it works well or not (never tried), but a multiple platform emulator, would be gold for you. http://www.mess.org/ |
