When adding books from files the 'Tag Import Settings' are a little ambiguous and not documented, how do they work.

I have eBooks with filenames in the format

'Title (Year) [Publisher].ext'

Is it possible to use the tag import feature to get the fields from the filename or am I missing the point of it? I have tried all sorts of combinations but nothing seems to work.

Also not sure what the text to apply field does?!

Any help or clues would be greatly appreciated!
