During Loading Pictures I got the following error, not seen before, but is repeatable. Selecting continue appears to load all Movies, (though a counter of how many displayed here, and in the main view, might help) Win7-64 5GB spare RAM 12GB total 1.1TB space on drive where movies and database reside Database 110MB

More info that may help, current version 7.1.3.5 Have been seeing increased errors due to lack of memory. Task Manager is currently reporting 1.37GB being used by extreme Movie Manager.exe 4.5GB in total in use. 7.7GB Free
When adding images, I no longer get thumbnails in the window to select from if using medium size images. Small imageg appear to be OK for a few images, then the memory issues start and the only option is to quit on the error and restart
Another message just appeared The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine |

Lack of memory has increased as I have added extra images. On a couple of occasions in Shelves View, i am just presented with large boxes with a red x. I have also encountered this in the main window with everything from ribbons up missing.
Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately
Not enough storage is available to process this command
Continue only occasionally works, and in some cases Quit has also failed
I now get this in all attempts at start up The example databse opens without error |

Hi Alessio
There were 1463 when I first noticed the issue with adding images. At the time it appeard that as more images were added the number possible to be added reduced during each attempt
There are currently 4437 items, and its almost impossible to do anything without memory issues, though to prove me wrong i was able to add 15 covers this evening before it failed
There are apparently 23681 actors in the database 1543 items with covers using 179MB of disk space The database is currently 128MB
I also tried a few experiments. Installed on main drive rather than external, also installed on a Win 7-32 machine, all experience the same issue.
Would you suspect a database corruption? If so I can try starting again, but it will take a week , as most of the covers were added by hand.
If a copy of the DB would help diagnose, i can compress (about 21MB) and provide, though probably without the files it may not help much
And just for a laugh, I just went and closed the program using teh top right cross, and got an error
Not enough storage is avaiable to process this command!
I remember many moons ago in Access 2 there were issues when you ran out of memory, that would prevent the user from even closing a window, but that was physical memory orientated, though I suspect its not the issue in this case. |

Update
I built a new database with 4701 items
I have kept the information to a minimum, i.e Picture Title Year Length
I have the database located on an external drive (3TB) plenty of free space
Computer Intel i7-920 Win 7-64 I have 3457MB memory used, 2679MB free total 6GB
The cover folder is 117MB The database is 5MB
On attempting to add the 1363 cover by drag-drop to the 'Picture View' frame I recieved my first warning on lack of memory. On attempting to open Shelves View I get an Unhandled Exception - Out of memory
This appears to be a serious bug, can anyone confirm large numbers preferably at least 2000 images in their XMM ? Otherwise i would suggest 1000 images is probably a safe limit
Could this be a memory allocation issue associated with 32bit OS memory limits?
I note XMM is built on Access 2000. On searching for "Out of Memory" I found this article, which implies bugs serious bugs if the service packs have not been added, might it be relevant?

OK more info, after restarting XMM have continued to add covers now at 1560
Have also now updated to latest version
To test memory, I started several other applications and am currently using around 4GB
Will update when I get another failure, maybe the clues will help identify the cause.
As soon as I get a repeatable failure after re-start, will try converting to Access 2003 to see if any difference |

I don't think it's images related i have over 29,000 in my cover folder and over 7,000 in photos
My current database is 582mb with over 2000 films and 20000+ actors.
I get memory problems only if I'm a load of films in one go or are updating loads of films.
Memory sits idle too about 337,900K when not in use but will increase to over 700000K when updating. I have seen it go as high as 2000000K and more, that's when emm crashes no error just hangs. I sometimes get the same problem with Firefox so it's not just Emm.
I usually try and make it not do too much. I have 4gb of memory installed and a healthy size virtual memory. It might be worth seeing what you virtual memory is, if it's low add i bit more and it might help.

Maybe the use of IrfanView is disabled in the config and some of the pics have a wrong file extensions ( as example: .jpg instead of .bmp)? |

All the pictures are jpg and virtual memory at 6GB
Since my last post all has been going well (touch wood)
I got to 2437 images before I got an '7out of memory' issue during drag drop of covers. But here is the interesting thing Before the error the thumbnail was generated almost instantaneous, but after it was taking 10 seconds each !
A short while later I had a pop-up telling me new movies had been found !
On closing the pop-up adding images was instantaneous once again.
I am wondering if this is the cause, possible causing an out of memory scenario, and subsequent corruption of data?

Ok, learnt something new today, apparently the '7out of memory' is a VB error code, but you all knew that anyway :)
Though it makes me wonder if there could be an error in the code, limiting the ammount of memory ? |

Ok now running 7.1.3.8
It would appear that I can add a large number of images, until such point as I get the '7out of memory', after that it gets weird, especially in shelves view.
Now if on the first indication of '7out of memory' I close XMM and restart, I can add another large number of images. System memory availability seems irrelivant. My guess would be something like XMM not releasing memory though if memory serves Access 2 used to do something similar, and as changes are made the available memory gets exhausted, until the program is closed and started again. The database is currently 5001 moveis with images out of a total of 5252.

Couple of questions... how are you starting XMM (ie Shortcut or .exe directly ?). Are you in XP Mode? Can you run TaskMgr and look at performance tab to see memory usage before, during and after using XMM?? What do you see in the Performance Tab related to memory usage? Do you have a Swap file? if yes, what size is it? Is you data drive fragmented (not a likely issue but you never know)??

Hi nehickel, i will answer in a couple of posts as I will need to add some more covers to see the effects on memory, though I was experiencing the same issue when I had 12GB ram installed.
Launching direct from exe. Have tried both XP mode and without compatability mode, issue occured in both cases. Am currently running without compatability mode as it doesn't appear that you can drag drop images in compatbility mode.
Pagefile is managed by Windows
Physical Memory before running 6135MB Total 1958MB Available Process Memory of XMM immediately after start of XMM 184MB Physical Memory immediately after start of XMM 1634MB
No fragmentation, drive was new when data sequentially added |

Ok wasnt able to get a failure this time, as I ran out of films to add images too. But I took a few reading as I went. Restarted XMM On display I only had those with missing covers (same as I usually do)
at 404 images missing 1829MB available XMM process 150MB running at startup
at 154 images missing 1509MB available XMM process 172MB
at 100 images missing 1316MB available XMM process 169MB
at 49 images missing 1112MB available XMM process 165MB
Closed XMM and re-started 1300MB available XMM process 150MB |

I have two more questions. What type of Graphics card do you have and 1) Do you know how much memory is on it? And how many displays do you have hook to it and at what resolution?
------------------------------------------------------------------ Here's my thoughts so far... I believe there are a couple of likely areas where the memory problem is coming from.
The first is your graphics card could be running out of memory. Depending on the card, the system could be using the GPU (Graphics Process) on the card as part of the image processing effort. This might explain why you see the problem even when you have 12gb of system memory.
Another somewhat related area is the graphics program that XMM uses (I'm not at my computer so I can't tell you for certain it's name... but it could be Iview?? or something like that). I'm going to assume for now that when you drop your images in for processing that you do bulk amounts rather one at a time into XMM. I'm not certain how XMM handles the communications of files to the graphics program (how I wish I had my computer right now!... I have a memory problem to but mine's in my head) but any time you drop a large number of files into a program, the operating system will do a couple of things such as grab as many files from the disk as possible and try to cram as much of them into into system memory as possible. The other things the OS will do (depending on how the graphics program and XMM were built) is to spawn threads for as many images as it can. Each thread has its own memory requirements. So how many threads can one program have? I'm not sure but this could lead to the type of process specific memory errors your seeing.
An interesting test would be to see how many images you could do in groups of 5, 10 15, 20... before a memory issue hits. You might be able to use a simple batch script directly into the graphics program it self to do this. It's just a thought.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks, Norm |

Graphics is a 1GB ATI Radeon 4600 series, 2 Monitors at 1920x1080
The fact I can run £0+ movies at the same time, would suggest there is not a real issue withthe Graphics card
The images are drag dropped into XMM one at a time. When the entry dissapears from the Missing Image list, I add the next. Now this is an assumption but I would say that as soon as one image is processed, the memory should be released.
My own gut feeling is that either Access or VB is not releasing memory, as the eror message is VB, I would tend toward VB. Though I have as I believe i mentioned somewhere above, seen a similar issue with MS Access 2 not releasing memory

Hello Guys,
Magician sorry for my late reply, I was really busy these weeks.
Do you still have memory problems? If you do NOT open the shelves view everything is working correctly?
Have you put, in the Main Grid, also the Picture field (to show the cover also in the Grid of Movies) ?
Ale
