Hi there,
i just searching for a media Manager with some features that this one seems to have ( pocorn or xbmc export, etc etc. ), BUT.....
I got a hughe collection of DVD's mainly TV-Shows, but also some Movies
all are stored on a nas with the following structure :
Movie :
Titel
--AUDIO_TS
--VIDEO_TS
TV-Shows
Titel
--Titel - Season 01
----Titel - Season 01 DVD01
------AUDIO_TS
------VIDEO_TS
----Titel - Season 01 DVD02
------AUDIO_TS
------VIDEO_TS
and so on.
Is there a way to import from HD to this Mediamanager ?
maybe with a different naming convention ?
Any Hints are pretty much welcom.
we would love to avoid transform the dvd to mkv since we are talking 8TB and more here.
Looking forward to your answer

There are several option available to you right now but your DVD storage method is very unique and as such, doesn't fit well within the normal range of solutions. But here are some methods that should work for you right now.
Based on your example, can I assume that you use some type of virtual DVD Drive to mount & play your movies on? If that's is the case, all you would have to do is mount up you structure in your virtual DVD Drive and then use the regular DVD Importing function under "Add Movies | Add Movies from CD/DVD" or "Add Movies | Add Original DVD by Reading Disk Information". The other option of course would be to simply use the latter "Add Original DVD..." and just enter the UPC or EAN code that's written on the back cover of the DVD case and XMM will search the Internet for the required data.
One of those solutions should work OK right now.
Having XMM read the structure directly would add more complexity to the product but it would also be a short term effort. By that I mean that as Blu-ray ultimately replace DVDs (as DVDs did to VHS) any unique DVD structure solutions would be obsoleted. There are also issues with Blu-ray, which make doing any type of structure solution there a seldom if ever used feature as well. Specifically the issues with Blu-ray structures are the amount of data, the data structure itself and some of the encryption methods used for Blu-ray that tie the Movie to the actual delivery container. This will make keeping Blu-ray's structures on HDD a significant pain to deal with. it is generally considered a good idea to covert the platter structure to a common file format or keep the structure on it's original delivery container.
I'm NOT a developer involved in anyway with the XMM product and what they do or do not do is not my call. However I have been involved with keeping Movies & TV Series on HDD since 1992 (VHS, DVD & now Blu-ray), so I am very familiar with the issues and approaches that work the best across multiple local & networked display platforms as well as local & networked storage devices.
One last comment. The DVDs VIDEO_TS structure is basically a bunch of security stuff wrapped around some VOB formatted file(s). You can rip a DVD to a single VOB file that will play like the VOBs on the DVD only without a virtual DVD drive. The only reason DVDs have multiple VOB of 1 gig or less was because of memory limitations that existed way back in the mid '90s that no longer exist...

Import Movies/TV-Shows with Video_TS structure (*)
