Extreme Movie Manager Wishlist

I have gone through most of the postings in the forum and created a wishlist with all those wishes (extended by my own wishes). This list is fairly complete and it's now up to you all to post here old wishes or wishes I have overseen or wishes I have not understand.

This wishlist is for your information and helps you in finding which features have been requested. So before posting you should check it out. You'll need to find the corresponding posts yourself (sorry). Your feature request should be well thought-out and easy to understand. Please consider, if your wish really makes sense and is of use not only for you but also for as much users as possible. For bug reports a corresponding forum is available. Here only suggestions
and feature requests are desired. The list isn't sorted on importance and wishes on the list might not be picked up by Alessio.

a back-up database feature would be nice. Should also be configurable to make scheduled back-ups, like everytime EMM is started/shut down/whatever.

Great list

I have a few suggestions to the "xMM - Scripting" section.
1) An option to set the order in which the functions are executed.
It would speed up the execution because you can avoid some instances of #OPENNEWWEB#-#RESTOREWEB# which slows down the script engine.
For example:
#FUNCTIONSORDER#=MOVIETITLE,DIRECTOR,GENRE
etc. etc.
or have a special section which the script engine reads and executes in the order you specify:
#FUNCTIONSORDER#
MOVIETITLE
DIRECTOR
GENRE
#ENDFUNCTIONSORDER#
and if it's missing then the script engine could use a default order (like it does now).
I know that people might have deselected #ACTORS#, #DIRECTORS# etc. but you could just have an #IF# check a variable to find out if the current page is the right one or not.
For example:

#IF# #37#==#00#
// The current page is "Main Details" open the "Combined Details"
#OPENNEWWEB#=#36#
#ENDIF#

2) A "special" function in the script that always gets executed first before the other functions (well after the right movie is selected or found of course) regardless of what the user selected. It would make it easier to update/maintain the script.
If for example you made a script for iMDB then you could place the code to get the "Site ID" (WEB ID) there and store it in a variable instead of putting the same code in every function.

I like FB's idea of a begin/end concept in the script

#BEGINIMPORT#, and #ENDIMPORT# would be great to have. They just get called automatically before the first data import block (like #TITLE#), and after the last import block.

This would allow setup or cleanup code to run.

Hi Alessio...

Firstly:
Thanks for all the time and effort you put into xMM. Not many apps around these days that the writer adds so many new updates and new utilities to on a regular basis. I paid my $10 and you have stuck to your word of life time upgrades. You have impressed me with the effort you put into your work on eMM and how you take the time to stop by here (the forum) for user input and answers. Good job dude...

OK,,, A couple suggestions/requests for eMM:

1)minor) Resizable Winows for... "Add/Edit Window" & "Script Chain Editor" & "MagicScript Import Engine" Or all windows...

2) The Movie List:
When viewing "Movies Title" ad a drop down box or + or maybe even just highlight any series or sequels.
EXAMPLE:
Back To The Future 1 2 3... Show only Back To The Future in the list and have a + to click on to show the rest of the series. Or show all 3 movies in a row as xMM does now, but maybe just have them highlighted in a box or allow a selectable size of font and or color.

3) Question: Is there any way to read movie info off a retail DVD? Same as it can Read AVI / MPEG etc,,,? If it is possable then maybe add the "Read Files" button to the main screen so you can just pop a DVD in and hit "Read Files" and have it auto fill movie title and any info that might be able to be taken from a retail DVD...

That's enough for now. I could go on, but I'll save some ideas/requests for Pro eXtreme Movie Manager 3.0 Ultra!

Thanks Alessio...

1) I don't know if will be possible for all windows, I will try

2) Good and cool idea! I will think to this.

3) You can read some information of a DVD, but you must manually select the IFO file inside the DVD. I am sorry, at this time is the only way.

Thank you again!

ODBC support is my number one wish.

I even tried linking an Access database via linked tables to a SQL server. It kind of works but EMM detects it as an old database and attempts to import it (which it does fine).

Alessio,

one of the easiest things you can give us back is an zipped update of your XMM. I don´t like to run an installer just for updating. The installer copies all scripts and so on to the directories...this I dont like because I just use 5 or 6 different scripts.
Please give us the zipped "eXtreme Movie Manager.exe" file back.

PLEASE!!

Hi

I just tried your program for the first time, and it is perfect in many ways, but for me i would like to see these things in the app before i switch over:

1. (The most critical) = Smarter movie/actor lookup:

When you have imported the selected movie from IMDB as i prefer, you already have links for the 100% correct actors. Then the script should remember this information, when importing actors in the 2nd stage - then the script will not be confused which actor is in the movie. F.x. i look up "10 Things I Hate About You". There is 49 Actors/Actresses. After importing the movie, the actor script stops many times asking which actor is in. I investigate which is the right one and choose so. Even after this trouble if does not put a web-link for the actor in almost 50% of the cases - that gives very little info on those actors. I know that whis option will make the import take a lot longer - but you should build it in as optional.

2. When 'Reading Files' from HDD og CD/DVD, it would be great to be able to select 'All Files In Each Subfolder is same movie' - personally i have a folder for each movie.

3. Having 'Select All' and 'Select None' boxes when importing/updating information about movies/actors.

4. Nicer WinXP-like user-interface.

5. Regognize files like .srt files (and others) .nfo files f.x. and use this info when reading files. F.x. it could say "Subtitles found, which language is it ?" Or perhaps it can even find out by itself. Also a default option = English could be great. Or an option: "Always import .nfo files" Then you could read the .nfo file inside the EMM.

Basically i would like to add all movies on a media with 1 click after i set the nescesary options, and the next thing i will see is "Import Complete".

Some examples for options:

- More file extentions to choose from.
- Import .nfo/.txt file if available
- Treat each subfolder as a movie
- Treat movie-file below XXXXX KB as sample movie / Trailer.
- Use cover picture in import directory (if available) as default (instead of replacing with a perhaps less quality one from IMDB.)
- or Use cover picture in import directory if bigger than the one from the web import.
- Follow actor link on IMDB when importing movie, to find the correct actor (SLOW)

Best Regards

3. Having 'Select All' and 'Select None' boxes when importing/updating information about movies/actors.

I did ask for a "Select All" button as well before but the feature is there but ruther "hidden" I might say. Start the importing engine and on the list of movies or actors you see on the left, right-click with your mouse. The pop-up menu will give you the option to "Select All".

Back To The Future 1 2 3... Show only Back To The Future in the list and have a + to click on to show the rest of the series. Or show all 3 movies in a row as xMM does now, but maybe just have them highlighted in a box or allow a selectable size of font and or color.

and Alessio said its a good/cool ideo

I say its a fundemental thing to do.

Since i have a lot of serie and movies my lkist shows like this

1x01 4354
1x02 erfe
etc
back to futures
etc

when it would be nices and easer for me to identify the episodes
when its like

+ CSI Miami
+ Band of Brother
Back to the future
+ Mr bean
Conan
etc

please try to include this so series are shown better when listing the whole ocntents of database and can you please add icons for mpeg files please thanks

Got 2 suggestions:

- more icons, e.g. for DVD-R and MVCDs.
- no more popping up of the Magic Script window (you know, the one where you can select the movies on the left side and the script to import infos with on the right side) after Quick Import. No need for that IMO. When I use QI, I only need it for the movie I just made an entry for. If I want to import multiple movies I use the www-import feature and mark all of the movies I need. Am I the only one? Don't think so ;) Or did I miss an option to disable it?

I agree 101% with mancer on the "NO MORE popping up the Magic Script window after Quick Import" I find it VERY VERY VERY annoying to constantly have to minimize that Magic Script - I never have need for it during Quick Import.

Also in the MEDIA (category) there are no categories for DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL (dual layer media). I tried adding those but was unable to for some reason.

I'm new to EMM, and it's certainly the best I've tried so far -- it comes SO close to being perfect for me.

I'd like to see a MASS CD/DVD Add function which iterates into the disk's sub-directories. I organize my movies into directories when they are multi TV episodes, or split encodes, or movies with subtitles. As it is now, EMM skips those over as if they didn't exist.

Also in MASS Add function I'd like to see ALL extensions supported. My movies ending with .mov .3ivx or .mp4 are just not found. I don't particularly care if the file details can't be read from inside those files, but skipping them is an even worse situation, and frankly, all I need is to import the title.

Those two functions are showstoppers for me. If resolved, I'll gladly register EMM because it will then do what I need.

I would also like to see a simple script which gets ONLY the IMDB id # for the movie. This way I can MASS import many movies, quickly verify their titles in IMDB (sometimes you need to sit at the computer and comfirm multi-matches or partial matches, which can take a very long time if you use the full FreakBrother script for example). After all titles confirmed, I can safely run the FreakBrother script on all for a few hours unattended.

You mentioned that you wanted a simple script to quickly import only the "iMDB ID".
That is actually unnecessary because you can specify what the program should import.
Unfortunately there's a bug in the program so you can't select only the "Site ID" (iMDB ID) at the moment.

But follow these steps:
1) Click the "WWW" (Import from internet with MagicScript) button.
2) Click the "Import Configuration" tab. Here is where you specify what the program should import.
3) Now uncheck everything here except the "Site ID" (iMDB ID) and "Tagline".
4) Click the "Apply Changes" button to save your changes.
5) Now select the movies you want to import and run the import with the iMDB script like you usually do
This way the import gets the "Site ID" which can be used when you run the "complete import".

If you need help to set up the program to automaticly run the "complete import" then have a look under the heading "Using the script for updating:" in this thread:
http://www.binaryworks.it/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=772

Just don't forget to select all those boxes again on the "Import Configuration" tab before you run the complete import

EDIT:
I've changed the instructions since there was a problem when the old ones were used

1) multiple changes window: select more movies at once (holding SHIFT ).... today i had to select 200 movies ... :( --> this selection possibility would be great for the movielist in normal view too. this would solve some problems.

2) possibility to rezize the list window .... i collect many series and have problems to see the episodenames: CDDVDID - SERIESNAME - EPISODENUMBER - EPISODENAME --> a possibility to change the view (list above the MOVIECARD) would give us more space for names and additional information ....)

I have bad memory and always forget a movie that was thinking about getting but never wrote it down. If you want to make it fancy, add another tab for Wishlist after the Movie and Actors Tab so they won't be exported or mixed in with other movies.

Digger

Hi,

I see here in this forum many proposals. Comparing to
other, xMM is already a very nice program with many
"bells and whistles". But, unfortunately it lucks some
significant conceptual things, which i would rate as
"the must" for a such program. For further success of xMM
on the market I think that the following four options are
the most important :

- Clear separation of "film data" from "medien data".
Support for multiple medien for one film without duplicating
of film data.

All Movie data now is putted together. It would be more
usefull to put a clear separation on "film data" and
"medien data". For example, I have many films on
different medien: DVD (standard), DVD (copie),
DivX (English), DivX (German), VHS, etc.

- Support for multiple audio streams pro media.

Now it is quite difficult to archive media with
several audio streams. It would be usefull to have
information for every audio stream that is available -
Codec, Audio Bitrate, Channels and Language.
The program should automatically read this information
from the media. For example, I have many DVDs and CDs
in DivX format with two audio streams in different bitrates
and different languages. Possibity to arrange the database
according to this information is also very important.

- Unicode support.

Or any other possibility to have descriptions
on many languages. For example, German and Russian.

- Slow.

For example, standard sorting of the database according
to different attributes. Ant is much more faster.

Best wishes,
Digger

Hi Alessio...

I just realized that there is already a solution to the below "quote" request!

In the main view there are the Movies/Actors tabs. All you have to do is select "Serie's Name / Title" in the Movies tab. As long as you have entered the series name in the Movie/Normal section then this works nicely sorting TV series and movie sequels...

RE:

Hi Alessio...

2) The Movie List:
When viewing "Movies Title" ad a drop down box or + or maybe even just highlight any series or sequels.
EXAMPLE:
Back To The Future 1 2 3... Show only Back To The Future in the list and have a + to click on to show the rest of the series. Or show all 3 movies in a row as xMM does now, but maybe just have them highlighted in a box or allow a selectable size of font and or color.

the R-Key jumps to the first movie like Rambo). instead it would be helpfull to type more letters for example "run" then the programm

if it will be not much work or easy to include i would be very happy with this feature included in one of your future updates

Update - i add another wish here:

is it possible to set a default media type. i only have dvds so setting dvd to default and not having to choose it from the listfield (divx, vhs, laserdisc ...) would be great.

It's great that there is a button in the main menu to import a picture from the clipboard. But it would be MUCH better if this picture could automatically be put in the first place!
After all, why would I go through all the trouble of making a picture for the movie without wanting to see it when I click on the movie?

Especially in regard to the problem with the slow XMM (see http://www.binaryworks.it/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1932 ) this is REALLY time-consuming but could probably be easily resolved!

Also, it would be nice (not important though since right now the importing of movie files doesn't work anyways) if one could select several files at once when you search for files in the "Search your Hard Disk for Movies" option.

I noticed that you have "movie id renumbering" on your list as still missing from XMM 4.8 - I see there is an option in 5.2.8 but it doesn't seem to work so getting this to work would be as well (but also not that important imho ).

The "multiple media per title" feature is on the list from the beginning. I think it was my own suggestion and it is a bit problematic, because you will have to change the whole database structure.

Drop-down lists seem to be on the way. By doing this Alessio can maybe pick up the other suggestions concerning data fields like a better handling of multi entry fields (languages, subtitles, dvd features)or a bigger field for dvd features (e.g. a table within the field with all features listed).

I would love to have EMM show the proper date (IE- 11/23/06, instead of Saturday 23, 2006) for the 'Aired Date' within TV Series. I notice the website "TV.COM" itself even uses that format, as i have been using that site for a while to get my info manually when naming file's and such, but some reason EMM displays differently still.

Hi djdafreund,

I am trying to find a "workaround" for this.

As you can see in TV.COM, the air date in format "12/12/2006" are only in episode list.

If you enter in a episode details, the air date is in format "Saturday 23, 2006". This is the reason why engine take the extended format.

Hello,

I've been searching around for a movie manager with some specific features and this one is as close to what I'm looking for as I've found. It's missing one main thing (for me) though.

I'm running XMM on computer connected to my flat panel TV. I've got a few hundred movies and I want people (myself included) to be able to browse my movie collection by covers -- basically like a jukebox -- and be able to select a movie and play it. The thumbnail view is close, but the images would need to be bigger and there would be a selector controlled by the cursor keys. "Enter" would play the selected movie.

So two questions:

One, does the ability to do this already exist? (some kind of "jukebox" mode?)

Two, if it doesn't, do I have a snowball's chance in hell of looking forward to it in the near future? Depending on the container used for the thumbnails, adding a cursor may or may not be difficult either. I imagine the difficulty of resizing the thumbnails would depend on how it was coded (could be really easy or a big pain). I'm sure you all have a ton of things to work on, too.

Thanks!

- All my movies have the same Media Language and the same Subtitles, would it be possible to change the default value. Whenever we would add a movie these fields will have a default value. This would be very handy.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

2) In Thumbnails window thumbnails would use little tittles under them.
3) Maybe a help video for writing a script.

Well, to late now:) I wish I could help you with writing some codes but I dunno how. I always say 'OK' or 'RETRY' and to do that hundreds of time I have wait a couple hours with it. Wouldn't it be great if there was an option to pre-conditioning those windows? So you set it up and it will download what ever it can without you baby sitting 'MagicScript Import Engine' and when you are back everything would be cooked and served:) And if a movie is wrong then you simply correct it singly.
Let me know what you think of it.
Thanx in advance

My 2 cent to the topic about "Media" field.

I am using this field now for saving information about the used container format, e.g.
AVI, MKV, OGG, DVD,.... It is more important to know than DVD+R or DVD-R, because it
defines if you can play this media with some device or not.

There is also no other place for that in XMM now and Both are quite equivalent now and
here only makes sence to distinguish between single, double layer, double side and double side/double layer.

Alessio,

Software is working well still, my thanks for your hard work.

Just a quick suggestion which I would think wouldn't take too much to add in but would make things a little easier is this.

When running an import for movie information, with quick mode disabled, the information would be greatly improved if the tile found (by the IMDB search for example) was displayed in the section to the left (along with ID, Title, Status).

Currently when it finds a Direct Link the only information given is "1 Direct Link Only" and there is no way to check if this was correct or not before moving onto the next Phase (downloading).

A further improvement would allow an item to be selected from the list and the link cleared or searched again...

Cheers. Tim

Hello,

I just bought the AllMyMovies software a month ago. Too bad. Yours seems to be much more versatile and complete.
Nevertheless I would need a few answers in order to buy this one.
- Is it possible to import movie titles through scanning a specific directory on the HDD but NOT based on the files contained, just the subdirectories names? The way I do it the directory that contains the movie, any kind of movie (BR, HD-DVD, mkv, avi, wmv-hd, etc...), has the most accurate name.
- Is it possible to have a "one click solution" to import, say, IMDB data and cover for a list of movies without being asked to select a choice etc...? Even if I have to correct some flaws later on?

Thanks

Hi Xtrips!

1)At this time XMM read the filename, not the subfolder name. Of course XMM search also in the subfolder but the name of the movie will be equal to the First filename (if the movie has more that one file). Maybe I can try to add this function in future.

2)Yes, there is already this opportunity, you have to select the "Quick Script" to use. from the Button "internet"->"quick update with default script"->"set default script" and after "Start now".

Thank you!

1. The option to make the MD5 hash window not stay on top of all other windows. When I import many movies at once I like to go and do something else while it is scanning the files, but that makes it difficult.

2. This is harder to implement I think. It would be nice, when importing TV episodes from the internet, to have the option to automatically have the script reset the episode number back to 1 every time the season changes. I do not name the first episode of season 2 as episode 25, for example.

I keep my movies on another network drive and with the current version (6.2.3.0) of XMM after I search the movie drive to find new movies then try to use one of the scripts to add information from the internet, XMM can no longer find the scripts and re-sets causing me to have to reload the database and redo all of my customizations. As near as I can tell, these problems are caused because XMM expects things to be found in particular places - places that cannot be set by the user. I would be real helpful to be able to specify where the various parts are found.

Since this is my first post I just want to say that XMM is the very best of all the manager/database software I have tried. Thanks for the excellent work.

One thing that I personally need from XMM is an updated "Export to (x)HTML-DB". Currently the feature only works with IE and has a few issues when you browse for movies. It will stop as you browse and you have to use the back button to continue browsing. Also the "movie title" never updates so all my movies say "movie title" at the top. The code was created in 2003 as posted on the template itself. Not sure if it has since been updated.

It would be great to have the (x)HTML-DB updated so that it was functional with IE7 and Firefox 2.0.

Thanks again for your efforts and nice work.

I just purchased XMM and it has just about everything I have been looking for in a movie manager. A couple of things are missing for my needs though, one of them is on your list:

-XMM should have an option to use folder names as movie name and include all video files inside that folder (including sub folders contents) for import.

Almost all my media is on DVD and it is in the form of

D:\My Movie (2008)\movie-1.avi
D:\My Movie (2008)\movie-2.avi
D:\My Movie (2008)\folder.jpg

The above fix would make my importing life greatly easier. Any idea when you will get time to look into it?

This also brings me to my next wish. When you are importing a folder like the above if an image is found in the directory could you automatically make it the cover image for the entry?

Thanks for all the hard work XMM really is quality software and a great program.

Hello Alessio

my compliments for your software, is really complete and powerful and for once I was really glad to spend the registration fee.
I've seen this item on the wishlist:

- Field "Free time": automatic calculation of free time on medium (VHS + DVD)

I vote for that, because very often you want to add a new DivX to your collection and you don't know on which DVD it will fit, if any. So a free space counter for the media support would be really fine. It could be the "free time" and the "free space" (in MB) indicator.

You could also sort your media by free space/time.

I think this feature would be really useful and quick to implement at the same time.

Hi Alessio!

First let me send you a big thanks for all the hard work you put into XMM! Ive been using it for more than 4 years now, and it hasnt let me down yet :)

I preliminary use it for integration with Meedio for Movies. Im not sure if you use it your self, but I have some feature requests that would be really cool.

As you probably know, XMM`s TV section used to have a script called fluxxx, which downloaded banners / covers from the site I hosted and helped start..
This has now gone over to thetvdb.com along with all the metadata for TV shows.

Well, Meedio as come a bit further since the initial start of the "fanart" images (banners, covers), and the meedio community actively contribute with graphics / "fanart" for movies and tvshows etc. Up until now users of meedio would have to use a plugin written for meedio to grab the fanart backgrounds for movies, (for reference, the plugin is called meemoviesimporter and can be found on meedios.com site) what I was thinking, themoviedb.org has got these beautiful backgrounds for movies called fanart. They are downloadable from the website and from the plugin I referred to earlier (meemoviesimporter). The importer in meedio downloads the images based on the IMDB numbertag.

So in short:
Have a XMM script download these fanarts for the movies in xmm-library, to a section called fanart in XMM :)
Would this be possible?

reference images / links:
http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/218

http://pce.hostili.com/images/rata4x65.jpg

Themoviedb.org API:

To use the API, just make an IMDb request to the following URL:

http:// api.themoviedb.org/backdrop.php?imdb=

So as an example,

http:// api.themoviedb.org/backdrop.php?imdb=tt0468569

this will result in links to the various backdrops.

best regards
Richard Skarsten

ps: just found this on themoviedb.org`s forum:

"Before the rest of the API gets released people will have to apply for a key. We'll do this for a couple of reasons but primarily so we can track usage and keep developers up to date with progress and any changes we might make."

But this should cause any problems I think...

Its really be great if the program uses an optional "Media Center" interface, where all the covers are displayed like in Apple´s Front Row (iTunes, Elisa Media Center Free, and the "unusable-sloooow-nerohome" can tell what I mean, too)

In the bottom, could be displayed basic information of the item selected in "front row interface". These information should be selected by the user.
In the top, icons/labels could tell us what kind of order/filtering are applyed to the list.

When I press enter, it should play the movie (or ask for the media)

The "playable" part should be like "Media Player Classic" or something really simple, fast and efficient. Some solution CODEC free (built-in CODECs) like VideoLan could be great too. Matroska FullHD content compatibility will make it great option for everyone, ant in tune with the future needs.
VideoLan has an horrible interface, but if the Xtreme Movie Manager FrontRow, was the navigation interface, and something like VideoLAN was called full screen only when I double click or press enter in a movie, that should be great too.....

Basically manually picking a movie via the internal browser for an existing database entry.

DVD/VHS, cause this is confusing. Audio Format is twice and stuff
like "AC3-Digital" is the same like "Dolby Digital 5.1 EX" because
Dolby-D is always AC3. I would merge this two tabs.

3. A checkbox for indexed movies in the movie tab would be
good. You know, the movies who are not allowed to sell.

4. Is there something for saving the XMM configuration like "movie grid fields"?

5. The next thing i don't know to deal with are the TV Shows.
The CatalogNo from the TV Shows don't show up under "My Movies"
so you never know if the number is already in use. Than the CatalogNo's
don't show up in "My TV Shows", so if you looking on what DVD is lets say
Spongbob episode "Home Sweet Pineapple" than you allways have to oben the
edit window.

Only request I would like to add, and I hope it hasn't already been asked a million times, but could we see an option to choose a different format for the index file when exporting to html? I would love to see a simple grid of thumbnail cover images that link to individual movie cards. That would be really cool.

Reason being, I bought this to make looking through our movie collection easier for my girlfriend who is not very computer savvy.

Either wya, Thanks for making such an amazing tool for such a reasonable price. :)

Hey. This is my first post here, Cheers :)

I wanted to ask whether it is possible that once I add a new movie to the collection it automatically gets selected once I imported the information from one of the internet scripts. It's because I have to enter a special information (CD location) manually after adding the movie, and this field is down in one of the tabs when opening the details of a movie.

Apart from that I wanted to ask whether the priority of the feature-request to filter for import-scripts based on the language (e.g. filter to just show english scripts or just German scripts or whatever) could be raised

You can drag the field with your CD location to the front tab (Main). I use the field CatalogNo to give my movies the number where they are located in my boxes. I have added this field also to the main grid so I can sort it and see the empty fields on the top of the list.

Great job! I have two suggestions:
1. Is it possible to save settings of the scripts despite scripts update (I use IMDb and it has a lot of settings and the script is often updated and I have to set settings after each update)?

2. Is it possible to add AKA to Title/Original title (not replace it with AKA) in IMDb script - I want it to be "title AKA my_country_title"?
To be exact this would be perfect for me:
Before update from internet:
Title: Smultronstallet [Director's Cut]
Original title: <empty>
After update from internet:
Title: Smultronstallet [Director's Cut] AKA Tam, gdzie rosna poziomki
Original title: Smultronstallet

3. If the title has the Unicode character it seems like it isn't forwarded to the IMDb correctly (try "Smultronstället" - it doesn't give any search results)

Kind regards,

Extreme Movie Manager Wishlist

- Scanning DVDrips on the hard drive

This is one of mine, too...

Just a suggestion, as it's ALMOST there. If you could set the scanner to scan for VIDEO_TS.IFO instead of just an extension (IFO), then go up two folders (skipping the VIDEO_TS) folder, to add the folder name as the movie name.

Incidentally, even without this functionality, if you associate .IFO with a DVD player in Windows (I use WinDVD), if I put the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the file information, the XMM "play movie" functionality works.

What would be another great addition to cataloging DVD rips (and probably much harder, if even possible) is support for removable volumes. I use a Dual SATA dock, so instead of "H Drive", say, to play, if XMM doesn't find the file, it could say something like "Please connect volume DVD Movies 4" or something like that. I use the "Location" Field for storing the volume name, but volume could be its own field.

Just a wish list thing - I already love the software!

Hi,

thanks a lot Alessio!
one little bug: large letters with special characters are replaced with small letters. for example:

Überfall is replaced with ueberfall. it has to be Ueberfall :)

One suggestion for the media plugin: The backround cover is only loaded correct, if the film-titles are the original ones. for example:

title: Jagd auf Roter Oktober -> no backround cover
title: Hunt for Red October, The -> backround cover

Can you "simply" replace the field titel with original title for export?

Hi,

I've been using EMM for a few days now and it's almost perfect for me.
If i had to humbly make some suggestions i would say:

-Add customisation to shelves view, like being able to display the "media type" icon on every cover so that i know which ones are DVDs, divx, HD(mkvs) and may be have to possibility to choose whant i want to see on or under each cover, like release date, or language, or seen or unseen. I know it's already available in the html board on the right side but it would be really convinient to have the infos we want under each cover for example.

-Let's say right now i have 300 movies on C: and each one in a separat folder and i want or i have to move all these movies to D: it means that i have to manually change the letter for each file and it would take a very very long time. However what about improving the scanning process and make it so that if i move all my 300 files to D: the scanning process could say: "scanning process had detected that 300 files are missing on C:" "Do you want scanning process to scan for other drives to find the missing files?" so i would enter "Yes" and ask it to go and look on D: and it would find all the missing files and would link them to each of my movie list as it was before i moved my files in the first place.

-What about the possibility of saving for each movie, all the movie information like "title, genre, year, seen..." in the same movie folder? I know it's already possible to save covers so why not save all informations then? you know just in case you lose or corrupt your database, you know that you just have to rescann your harddrive and in a few minutes you'll have your database just as before.

I'm sorry if these ideas are impossible or have already been told, but i just wanted to add my contribution as i bought emm a few days ago and it's may be the first software that i buy and i don't regret it!!!!!

Anyway keep up the great work Alessio. :)

About the Movie Files: your ideas are great (export info in the same folder of movies to be able to read it again later).

In case you change the drive letter at this time there is a thing you can do (make a backup first!)
There is a function called "File Manager", where you can specify the change of the folder where your movies are store.

If you have move ALL your movies, you can also Select it all from main grid, then right-click -> multiple changes at once-> Replace a word in file.

Here the word to be replaced must be "c:\" and the new word "d:\"

I have some wishes
When I import data from IMDB (complete) and xMM can't work out which movie to choose then I choose it manually, this is an arduous process when you have 1500 movies. Eventually when I have finished selecting the correct movies from IMDB xMM starts downloading the data. Sometimes xMM crashes or the computer hangs and I have to go throiugh and select all the correct movies from IMDB again. Please make it so that xMM saves all the selections in a file until it has finished downloading all the data from IMDB so this info is not lost.
Another wish is to be able to import movie data from another xMM database. When a friend gives me 200 movies he could give me a copy of his complete database and xMM could import the data just for the movies he has given me from his xMM database, it would be a lot faster than importing from IMDB.

Hi,

I have been using XMM for a relative short period and so far I am really impressed with all possibilities/features it has
When I was searching for a possibility to exchange information between XMM databases I read the above and would like to add my wish to that of Chris_W_65. In my situation I have one main XMM database where I store all my movies with all the information I can find. Now I have two fysical NAS devices over which I have divided a large part of my movies fysically. I found I can let XMM search on those devices for the movies available and have those stored in a seperate database. What I can not do is copy the available movie information from my main XMM database to the, for now, two other databases. Exchanging movies could work if there was an option to have it first look for similar titles and have the available information put into the second database WITHOUT creating a new record as it is doing right now.
I could create an empty database but than I would have to generate some list of movies from each of my NAS devices and pick those by hand from the main movie database which would be just as tedious as getting the information again from IMDB etc..
The reason to have seperate databases is so I can use the information from the NAS devices for XBMC on one spot and the new Xtreamer MNT on another spot.
I hope this is a bit readable/understandable

Cheers,
Howard

Hi Alesio,

Can you incorporate Picture View into Quick Edit View as separate tab?

Hi
Just downloaded the Software today, imported all Movies, and uploaded it to my iPhone!
Great! Thanks for this Powerful tool!

In the Export Section there is a "cooming soon" feature: HTML Templates Export Manager.
When can we download the update?

What exatly will it offer? Can we easily design our own Templates? :D
Would be very nice for a noob like me

Thanks for Answers!

Hi

I want to re-wish for a feature I originally asked for in this thread 2 years ago on 01 Jan 2008!!

The option to make the MD5 hash window not stay on top of all other windows. When I import many movies at once I like to go and do something else while it is scanning the files, but this makes it difficult.

Maybe not pop it up in its own window, but make it part of the File Scanner window?

I also have a new feature to ask about. Can the File Scanner look for file MD5 hashes in NFO files? Maybe the NFO files would need to contain a file size that matches as well, as an added check the file is the same.

If my friend gives me a bunch of movies he has already hashed, this will save time when I import them.

Thanks.

Hi,
I'd like to have some new feature:

under manager scripts: order by quality column (stars) and selectable more row at once (to delete useless scripts, like porno, low quality and in other languages)
add some options to import video files from hd. Especially I'd like to have two fields where is possible to specify the characters after and before to search the film title.
i.e. Australia [1080p ITA DTS ENG AAC Sub]
the title of the film to be used in the search/update scripts is before the character "[". To make it more general, you can consider also who writes something before the title:
ie. (Director, ecc) Australia [1080p ITA DTS ENG AAC Sub]
so in the option fields you can specify that the title is after the character ")" and before "[".
I don't think that it is to difficult to implement, and it would gave a better experience using this software.

If it's not clear what I meant please ask explanations.
thank you

Giacomo

I have some ideas for the cover manager tool.
1. It should operate with key strokes.
Pressing Del for deleting and not needing to use the mouse. Using the arrows to navigate to the next Photo.
2.A larger View of the Photo where one can quickly navigate with the keyboard.
And beeing able to select more than one photo to delete

Or can I just delete the photos in the Database without corrupting it?

3. An being in the cover manager, I would like some buttons to navigate to the next movie in the database.
