I asked last summer for the ability to move complete movies around in the folder structure, you said you should look into it, but after that we haven't seen either the feature nor any more comments. It would be so nice if the feature could be implemented in not to far away release. I'm requesting this to make it possible to follow a work path like this:
1. I have x DVDs copied to a network server 2. The server encodes them during non-busy hours (can take a week or so, whos in the hurry?) 3. I open my XMM on one of the workstations. 4. I choose MASS FILE ADD 5. I add the movies, running the scripts etc 6. I use the filer for showing added movies today. 7. I choose for all marked movies the missing function [Move to designated folder (*a)] alternatively I choose for each movie a file-path where it should be copied (together with everything else that's in the very same folder)(*b)
My file structure is like this: /root/genre/movie title/movie files and it's a lot of work to add them after I have distributed them into their folders.
(*a) MOVE TO DESIGNATED FOLDER This feature is configured with a known root folder. It then copies the marked file(s) to a subfolder in the root folder based on the movies genre and title.
(*b) MOVE TO FOLDER This feature does what it's name is. It simply moves the complete folder where the movie recides in to a new location. Ofcourse it moves all the files in the folder and alse removes the old folder.
These are killer functions that I'm sure loads of users would appreciate! |

Thanks for your tip. This technique is actually exact 100% in opposition to what I want to achieve. I WANT to have each movie titles all files in one directory named after the movie I WANT to have those movie folders sorted within other folders based on category, when they came to my position, codec used or whatever I like that day.
I have my movies organised in a tree structure on my 1.5TB RAID-5 freeBSD file server. I use xmm from either of my four workstations and the file server servs any of my two HTPC stations using samba file sharing.
Meedio, which I use as HTPC frontend are aware of my movies just because I use the XMM import plugin that imports all my movies into the meedio library. Works very good.
So, even if I thank you for your support, your technique is of no use for me. |

I guess things must get lost in translation (perhaps politeness too, because your response was really rude). The tip i gave did allow you to have arbitrary orginizational structures on windows systems, but perhaps not on linux/free bsd. Good luck!

I'm truly sorry for that post, today when I re-read it I see that myself. Please excuse me for my bad expression skills. I guess I had a bad day and just let it come off on first victim.
Thanks for letting me know that the post was bad instead of just tag me as a rude mf from polar bear land.
Once again, it was not personal and I have no excuses for treating you as I did.

PS. When I lived in London all my worker fellows said all the time that I was rude. I think it's more of a cultural thing, but anyway, when in Rome... must be adequate in languages as well. DS. |
