I am running 5.3.9.0 and when I click on the "dice" icon to "select a random movie", no new movie is selected. The previously chosen movie stays loaded and no new random movie is selected.

No problem with it here.
Try running CHKDSK just in case it's a Windows problem. To run CHKDSK do this:
1. In "My Computer", right click "C:" and go to "Properties". 2. Click the "Tools" tab and then click the "Check Now" button at the top. 3. In the subsequent menu that appears, checkmark the option: "Automatically fix file system errors" and then click "Start". 4. You'll get a message that the utility can't run because the disk can't be locked and whether you want to schedule a diags check on the next reboot. Click "Yes" and then reboot.
CHKDSK will run and fix any errors it finds.
You could also try deleting your TEMP files by doing this:
1. Go to Start --> Run, type: "%TEMP%" (without quotes) and click OK. 2. If you haven't got the "Details" view enabled, click the "Views" icon at the top and choose "Details" from the context menu. 3. Click the column header called "Date Modified" to sort the data by date. Click the column header twice to get today's date at the top. 4. Hit CTRL+A to select everything in the right hand panel and then hold down CTRL while you click each file with today's date to deselect it. 5. Finally, hit the Delete key to send the rest to the Recycle bin.
Corrupt temp files can interfere with IE which XMM needs in order to run.
If for some reason or other, you get an error from the operating system that it can't find a particular file, open the Recycle Bin, find it in the list, right click it and choose "Restore" from the menu. Generally speaking though, Windows will recreate any temp files that it needs the next time you reboot. |

Still the same problem. Are you sure that EACH time you click the dice icon a random movie is chosen? In older versions of XMM, each time time I clicked on that a new, random movie was chosen. With this release, the first time I click it, a movie is chosen. With each subsequent click, the same movie stays. No new movie is chosen.

Working here too.
You just open xmm and press the dice several times, and not working? You didnt do anything else? Cause if i just start xmm and press the dice many times, keeps changing movies. Maybe if you did something else in between there is a prob... |

OK, seems everyone else's is working properly. I went back and tried again and noticed a message at the bottom of the screen that says: "5Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index."
To the right of this message it says "total movies listed: 4"
I have way more than 4 movies loaded. In fact, I have 1012 movies and that is the number that shows in the mini-statistic window.
There must be some problem that maybe I could fix with a fresh install of XMM. Assuming this is what I should try next, how can I avoid having to reload all 1012 movies? Which portions of XMM would I need to back up before I uninstall and reinstall?
Thanks,
Larry

Try going to Advanced Functions --> Movie Files Functions --> Locate Missing Files.
There's also an option to restore defaults via Tools --> Restore Default Configuration which might be worth a try too.
Other than that, you can always hit any letter of the alphabet to have XMM spring to titles beginning with that particular letter as an alternative means of selecting a random title.
