I have gone through most of the postings in the forum and created a wishlist with all those wishes (extended by my own wishes). This list is fairly complete and it's now up to you all to post here old wishes or wishes I have overseen or wishes I have not understand.

This wishlist is for your information and helps you in finding which features have been requested. So before posting you should check it out. You'll need to find the corresponding posts yourself (sorry). Your feature request should be well thought-out and easy to understand. Please consider, if your wish really makes sense and is of use not only for you but also for as much users as possible. For bug reports a corresponding forum is available. Here only suggestions
and feature requests are desired. The list isn't sorted on importance and wishes on the list might not be picked up by Alessio.

- Clear separation of "film data" from "media data". Support for multiple media for one film without duplicating of film data

- wish list of wanted movies within the database (graduation: maybe/ wanted/ most wanted etc.).(DONE PARTIALLY in XMM 5.2.6.0)
- wanted movies in extra tab/filter, no MovieID
- data field: "Title Sort" to able to sort movies for example without "A", "The" etc.
- data field tab to manage planned recordings with his digital receiver (with an interface with tv programm software).
- improvement of several fields, e.g. language, subtitles, audio format. Too small and not clearly arrangeable when you have long data entries, e.g. more than 10 subtitles on a DVD
- better handling of "multi entry fields" like the "subtitles" field: handling like the skript manager with a source list and a target list where you can move the several possible data entries

- By Importing tv-series actors should be added to actors database
- Actors and series/episodes should be "linked"

- "loaned to" box to the tv series like the one for the movies
- translate the air date and premiere date to the internal database date format when reading TV Shows with the scripts

xMM - Movie File Recognition + Managment

- better svcd recognition: bitrate, correct A.bitrate, movie length, MB
- recognition of vob-files
- calculating and adding the screen ratio, when scanning the file(s) resolution
- calculating the quality of the video in a percentage (like 'AVICodec' program)
- background of the files should change to red if the desination file can't be validated, and green if it can.
- supporting subtext (import + identification): Subtexts (subtexts) are extra files (normally ended with crt, sub or idx) that by using a plugin to your film player overlays the movie with the subs.
- file-assign option to a movie (for example a .nfo-file)
- Rescanning Movie Parameters (mass files add!) without losing or duplicating the information that are already entered about these video files in the database
- automatically read out codec information on multiple files, which then are automatically linked to the correct entries
- recognition of more than one audio stream
- file manager: possibility to change the File Name and/or directory of a movie file/several movie files
- an option to add TAGs to avi files (like title, genre, director, actors)

xMM - Import

- dvd profiler import: status bar during import, more fields e.g. all the dvd related stuff should be imported

- Select your preferred language for scripts and have eMM hide or delete all other languages in the scripts window or folder
- importing actors: problem that a given name will have more than one hit in the actor selection list --> system where xMM will pass the movie title, where a specific actor is sourced from, to the searching criteria.
- mass file add: analize the files to know if a movie was 2 or more files or has subtitle files
- mass import: automatically import a cover for each imported movie, as long as the cover file has the same name as the imported movie
- Mass file add: option to dissable scanning subdirectories.
- DVD insert: automatic recognition of the main IFO
- mass CD/DVD add function which iterates into the disk's sub-directories

- if gif-files were imported, xMM renames them to jpg. xMM should keep the original extension.

I have a few suggestions to the "xMM - Scripting" section.
1) An option to set the order in which the functions are executed.
It would speed up the execution because you can avoid some instances of #OPENNEWWEB#-#RESTOREWEB# which slows down the script engine.
For example:

etc. etc.
or have a special section which the script engine reads and executes in the order you specify:
#FUNCTIONSORDER#
MOVIETITLE

and if it's missing then the script engine could use a default order (like it does now).
I know that people might have deselected #ACTORS#, #DIRECTORS# etc. but you could just have an #IF# check a variable to find out if the current page is the right one or not.

#OPENNEWWEB#=#36#
#ENDIF#



2) A "special" function in the script that always gets executed first before the other functions (well after the right movie is selected or found of course) regardless of what the user selected. It would make it easier to update/maintain the script.
If for example you made a script for iMDB then you could place the code to get the "Site ID" (WEB ID) there and store it in a variable instead of putting the same code in every function.

Thanks for all the time and effort you put into xMM. Not many apps around these days that the writer adds so many new updates and new utilities to on a regular basis. I paid my $10 and you have stuck to your word of life time upgrades. OK,,, A couple suggestions/requests for eMM:

1)minor) Resizable Winows for... "Add/Edit Window" & "Script Chain Editor" & "MagicScript Import Engine" Or all windows...

2) The Movie List:
When viewing "Movies Title" ad a drop down box or + or maybe even just highlight any series or sequels.
EXAMPLE:
Back To The Future 1 2 3... Show only Back To The Future in the list and have a + to click on to show the rest of the series. Or show all 3 movies in a row as xMM does now, but maybe just have them highlighted in a box or allow a selectable size of font and or color.

3) Question: Is there any way to read movie info off a retail DVD? Same as it can Read AVI / MPEG etc,,,? If it is possable then maybe add the "Read Files" button to the main screen so you can just pop a DVD in and hit "Read Files" and have it auto fill movie title and any info that might be able to be taken from a retail DVD...


That's enough for now. I could go on, but I'll save some ideas/requests for Pro eXtreme Movie Manager 3.0 Ultra!

Hi

I just tried your program for the first time, and it is perfect in many ways, but for me i would like to see these things in the app before i switch over:

1. (The most critical) = Smarter movie/actor lookup:

When you have imported the selected movie from IMDB as i prefer, you already have links for the 100% correct actors. Then the script should remember this information, when importing actors in the 2nd stage - then the script will not be confused which actor is in the movie. F.x. i look up "10 Things I Hate About You". There is 49 Actors/Actresses. After importing the movie, the actor script stops many times asking which actor is in. I investigate which is the right one and choose so. Even after this trouble if does not put a web-link for the actor in almost 50% of the cases - that gives very little info on those actors. I know that whis option will make the import take a lot longer - but you should build it in as optional.

2. When 'Reading Files' from HDD og CD/DVD, it would be great to be able to select 'All Files In Each Subfolder is same movie' - personally i have a folder for each movie.

3. Having 'Select All' and 'Select None' boxes when importing/updating information about movies/actors.

4. Nicer WinXP-like user-interface.

5. Regognize files like .srt files (and others) .nfo files f.x. and use this info when reading files. F.x. it could say "Subtitles found, which language is it ?" Or perhaps it can even find out by itself. Also a default option = English could be great. Or an option: "Always import .nfo files" Then you could read the .nfo file inside the EMM.

Basically i would like to add all movies on a media with 1 click after i set the nescesary options, and the next thing i will see is "Import Complete".

Some examples for options:

- More file extentions to choose from.
- Import .nfo/.txt file if available
- Treat each subfolder as a movie
- Treat movie-file below XXXXX KB as sample movie / Trailer.
- Use cover picture in import directory (if available) as default (instead of replacing with a perhaps less quality one from IMDB.)
- or Use cover picture in import directory if bigger than the one from the web import.
- Follow actor link on IMDB when importing movie, to find the correct actor (SLOW)

The case is that when i start EXMM instead of launching the database I created and last opened begins with the example database
So I always have to switch between example and mine database.

one little bug: large letters with special characters are replaced with small letters. for example:

Überfall is replaced with ueberfall. it has to be Ueberfall :)

One suggestion for the media plugin: The backround cover is only loaded correct, if the film-titles are the original ones. for example:

title: Jagd auf Roter Oktober -> no backround cover
title: Hunt for Red October, The -> backround cover

Can you "simply" replace the field titel with original title for export?

-What about the possibility of saving for each movie, all the movie information like "title, genre, year, seen..." in the same movie folder? I know it's already possible to save covers so why not save all informations then? you know just in case you lose or corrupt your database, you know that you just have to rescann your harddrive and in a few minutes you'll have your database just as before.


I'm sorry if these ideas are impossible or have already been told, but i just wanted to add my contribution as i bought emm a few days ago and it's may be the first software that i buy and i don't regret it!!!!!

If you have move ALL your movies, you can also Select it all from main grid, then right-click -> multiple changes at once-> Replace a word in file.

Here the word to be replaced must be "c:\" and the new word "d:\"

I would even include the director (title + year + director), as it's possible to find two movies with the same title and the same year.

I have been using XMM for a relative short period and so far I am really impressed with all possibilities/features it has
When I was searching for a possibility to exchange information between XMM databases I read the above and would like to add my wish to that of Chris_W_65. In my situation I have one main XMM database where I store all my movies with all the information I can find. Now I have two fysical NAS devices over which I have divided a large part of my movies fysically. I found I can let XMM search on those devices for the movies available and have those stored in a seperate database. What I can not do is copy the available movie information from my main XMM database to the, for now, two other databases. Exchanging movies could work if there was an option to have it first look for similar titles and have the available information put into the second database WITHOUT creating a new record as it is doing right now.
I could create an empty database but than I would have to generate some list of movies from each of my NAS devices and pick those by hand from the main movie database which would be just as tedious as getting the information again from IMDB etc..
The reason to have seperate databases is so I can use the information from the NAS devices for XBMC on one spot and the new Xtreamer MNT on another spot.
I hope this is a bit readable/understandable

This is one of mine, too...

Just a suggestion, as it's ALMOST there. If you could set the scanner to scan for VIDEO_TS.IFO instead of just an extension (IFO), then go up two folders (skipping the VIDEO_TS) folder, to add the folder name as the movie name.

Incidentally, even without this functionality, if you associate .IFO with a DVD player in Windows (I use WinDVD), if I put the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the file information, the XMM "play movie" functionality works.

What would be another great addition to cataloging DVD rips (and probably much harder, if even possible) is support for removable volumes. I use a Dual SATA dock, so instead of "H Drive", say, to play, if XMM doesn't find the file, it could say something like "Please connect volume DVD Movies 4" or something like that. I use the "Location" Field for storing the volume name, but volume could be its own field.

The above fix would make my importing life greatly easier. Any idea when you will get time to look into it?

This also brings me to my next wish. When you are importing a folder like the above if an image is found in the directory could you automatically make it the cover image for the entry?

You could also sort your media by free space/time.

I think this feature would be really useful and quick to implement at the same time.

This has now gone over to thetvdb.com along with all the metadata for TV shows.

Well, Meedio as come a bit further since the initial start of the "fanart" images (banners, covers), and the meedio community actively contribute with graphics / "fanart" for movies and tvshows etc. Up until now users of meedio would have to use a plugin written for meedio to grab the fanart backgrounds for movies, (for reference, the plugin is called meemoviesimporter and can be found on meedios.com site) what I was thinking, themoviedb.org has got these beautiful backgrounds for movies called fanart. They are downloadable from the website and from the plugin I referred to earlier (meemoviesimporter). The importer in meedio downloads the images based on the IMDB numbertag.

So in short:
Have a XMM script download these fanarts for the movies in xmm-library, to a section called fanart in XMM :)

VideoLan has an horrible interface, but if the Xtreme Movie Manager FrontRow, was the navigation interface, and something like VideoLAN was called full screen only when I double click or press enter in a movie, that should be great too.....

1)At this time XMM read the filename, not the subfolder name. Of course XMM search also in the subfolder but the name of the movie will be equal to the First filename (if the movie has more that one file). Maybe I can try to add this function in future.

One thing that I personally need from XMM is an updated "Export to (x)HTML-DB". Currently the feature only works with IE and has a few issues when you browse for movies. The code was created in 2003 as posted on the template itself. Not sure if it has since been updated.

I've been searching around for a movie manager with some specific features and this one is as close to what I'm looking for as I've found. It's missing one main thing (for me) though.

I'm running XMM on computer connected to my flat panel TV. I've got a few hundred movies and I want people (myself included) to be able to browse my movie collection by covers -- basically like a jukebox -- and be able to select a movie and play it. The thumbnail view is close, but the images would need to be bigger and there would be a selector controlled by the cursor keys. "Enter" would play the selected movie.

One, does the ability to do this already exist? (some kind of "jukebox" mode?)

Two, if it doesn't, do I have a snowball's chance in hell of looking forward to it in the near future? Depending on the container used for the thumbnails, adding a cursor may or may not be difficult either. I imagine the difficulty of resizing the thumbnails would depend on how it was coded (could be really easy or a big pain). I'm sure you all have a ton of things to work on, too.

I am using this field now for saving information about the used container format, e.g.
AVI, MKV, OGG, DVD,.... It is more important to know than DVD+R or DVD-R, because it

Just a quick suggestion which I would think wouldn't take too much to add in but would make things a little easier is this.

When running an import for movie information, with quick mode disabled, the information would be greatly improved if the tile found (by the IMDB search for example) was displayed in the section to the left (along with ID, Title, Status).

Currently when it finds a Direct Link the only information given is "1 Direct Link Only" and there is no way to check if this was correct or not before moving onto the next Phase (downloading).

A further improvement would allow an item to be selected from the list and the link cleared or searched again...

The "multiple media per title" feature is on the list from the beginning. I think it was my own suggestion and it is a bit problematic, because you will have to change the whole database structure.

Drop-down lists seem to be on the way. By doing this Alessio can maybe pick up the other suggestions concerning data fields like a better handling of multi entry fields (languages, subtitles, dvd features)or a bigger field for dvd features (e.g. a table within the field with all features listed).

5.x - I miss the basic filters that were available in 4.x.
Are they in 5.x (and I am not looking in the right place?) or are they on the 'to do' list?

Filters would be much better use of the space currently occupied by mini-statistic which is 'nice to know' but not necessary for permanent display.

After all titles confirmed, I can safely run the FreakBrother script on all for a few hours unattended.

That is actually unnecessary because you can specify what the program should import.
Unfortunately there's a bug in the program so you can't select only the "Site ID" (iMDB ID) at the moment.

But follow these steps:
1) Click the "WWW" (Import from internet with MagicScript) button.
2) Click the "Import Configuration" tab. Here is where you specify what the program should import.
3) Now uncheck everything here except the "Site ID" (iMDB ID) and "Tagline".
4) Click the "Apply Changes" button to save your changes.
5) Now select the movies you want to import and run the import with the iMDB script like you usually do
This way the import gets the "Site ID" which can be used when you run the "complete import".

If you need help to set up the program to automaticly run the "complete import" then have a look under the heading "Using the script for updating:" in this thread:

1) multiple changes window: select more movies at once (holding SHIFT ).... today i had to select 200 movies ... :( --> this selection possibility would be great for the movielist in normal view too. this would solve some problems.

2) possibility to rezize the list window .... i collect many series and have problems to see the episodenames: CDDVDID - SERIESNAME - EPISODENUMBER - EPISODENAME --> a possibility to change the view (list above the MOVIECARD) would give us more space for names and additional information ....)

in DivX format with two audio streams in different bitrates
and different languages. Possibity to arrange the database
according to this information is also very important.

- Unicode support.

Or any other possibility to have descriptions
on many languages. For example, German and Russian.

- Slow.

For example, standard sorting of the database according
to different attributes. Ant is much more faster.

Don't know if it's allreay inhere somewhere, but when I want to see the first cover by clicking on it in the main window it opens up real big.
Since my 1st picture is always a scan of the original dvdcover I never get to see the complete picture.
Is it possible to show the picture at my max screen resolution ?
Or maybe make the image viewer scalable so I can scroll to see the rest of the picture.

I just realized that there is already a solution to the below "quote" request!

In the main view there are the Movies/Actors tabs. All you have to do is select "Serie's Name / Title" in the Movies tab. As long as you have entered the series name in the Movie/Normal section then this works nicely sorting TV series and movie sequels...

Also i'm wondering if others experience lagging in the whole program as the DB gets bigger, i have some 1800 movies in it and i think the program is quite slow to react to "Add" and also when i have imported data from web i see windows opening/closing.
