Hi
1) It is the actors since when i open it from network i can see about 70K actors so i think only solution is somewhere there should be a limit and this should be changed if possible(no idea where to look since don't know it is from .Net or W7 or Access itself)
2) Totally out of my area but yesterday i imported the mdb file to SQL, i know how absurd it sounds but trying to make it work someway
3) Also possible since db size is 1.35 GB(not relevant but using a Gigabit Network so i assume no bandwidth limitations)
4) I removed Actor pictures from the grid at the system with local db but after some while grid view become erroneous(UP-Down slider becomes invisible etc...).

| If you look in event viewer does it indicate an error and if so with what? it may reference the dotnet rather than EMM and may aid you in trouble shooting? |

i was hoping that it said that DotNet terminated or EMM terminated abruptly and maybe an error code to reference what exactly happened? Having an actual error log is just wishful thinking at this point :-)
It appears to happen only with this database though and because of the size? This has never happened with another database?
I am curious about this as I had memory errors on one of mine and ended up recreating it as I never did figure out what happened that caused it |

| Actually error is created from XMM8, that's why no error log at W7 nor a record at GOOGLE. I am pretty sure that it is about database size, i am curious if there are other users with that amount of actors/movies and DB size. It was working slowly until i found the way to show Actor photos, so about 40K photos(144K Actors) cannot be managed it seems. |

| I synced full DB with pictures to my test system and tried to open XMM8 locally, it gave the same error which gives opening DB from Network so it is not about opening from network, i removed totally .NET 4 completely and re installed but still same errors. |

Yet another absurd idea of mine: is your db's _thumbs directory filled? If so zip away all the thumbnails and try to start XMM with an empty thumbs directory. Does it work?
I've noticed in Process Explorer that XMM tries to read (all ??) those funny little thumbs and if you happen to have a lot of 'em it may impact things. BTW even if you have ticked thumbs generation off XMM will create them during movie updates ... |

| I deleted them all couple of times, i opened DB with errors from Test system with local replica of DB,i deleted all people from database and guess what DB became 183 MB and works very fast, so unfortunately nothing to do until system could handle too many records, i am still waiting some kind of update from developer guys since there is no use of this application if it cannot handle my collection!!!! |

I'm afraid it will take quite some time to adapt XMM to handle all the data it could collect these days. But: you can control what information gets stored and probably prevent the db from becoming too large.
First, import only the information you will really use. This means: try to be more restrictive on artist information. Will you really need all cross references?
It would be like this (using IMDB scripts): first import movies with only major artist information (name, web-id). Then, check for which artists you want more information and update only those with the actors script. It's the field "Filmography2" which bloats the db so the less you use it the smaller the db will be. |

Firstly I'm not saying for one minute that Drunkbell's database is rubbish, this is just a small message about data tidy....
I would agree with this Yan, I spend quite a large chunk of time tidying the data in the database. 1500 movies approx with between 8 and 12 main actors, in the main makes my actors tables around 12K. I try and thin out the data collected from the internet always checking for miss spelt names and duplicates. All my actors have photos and IMDB ID numbers are all added into the movie cast tab which helps the database to cross reference. The speed is acceptable and the database and XMM is rock steady. The database is only as good as the data inside it, so if it's full of rubbish and mistakes then I guess that's the information it will return. |

| Unfortunately i would like to use XMM "Because of" being able to download and keep all the information ability, i downloaded couple of other programs to check, and it seems none of them is as capable as XMM, so i really think it is possible to use it through a SQL express but developer guys need to work on it since i think if an application is able to collect all that data, it also should be capable to maintain it. I don't know if any XMM user has as many movies or records as i do but having every info about the movie and actors is the main point to use a computer program for a movie collection. |

Well, I would agree to Michael. As you always have restrictions in capacity (pc, program or memory) it is usefull to collect the data that is really needed. Otherwise you have to download complete imdb website and I think that's not the best way ;)
Of course XMM should handle as much data as it can but think of old Excel versions that only could handle an amount of 11,000 data lines.At the moment the only possibility for larger data capacity would cost database speed. But I have to admit that I'm not a database specialist and I might be wrong... |

yan00s, I never have something against shortening the data to manage more info! I think that's a great idea to shorten all those web addresses!
Theoretically you can go a step further: when you store the info rar compressed the unshortened data will "waste" only 3 KB. I think it should be not very difficult to include such an algorithm.
But back to my previous reply:
It was more to accept the limits that are given by the current system/program. Even the most compacted database will reach it's limit.

Just for the record  : I'm not arguing. Just trying to show where some potential's hidden so we don't reach our limits before we need to.  In this special case a good idea from version 7 is outrunning us on version 8 ... bad luck. And another entry on Ale's todo list, I'm afraid. |

| At least Actor photo renaming problem should be solved which i think it can be about my residential country(Turkey) but i use all Windows settings as English US(keyboard Region etc). I Created a VM windows and made a clean install, put a new movie to example database which shows actor pictures correctly, updated it and still no pictures at details page although photos are downloaded, should re-update actors to make them show at details, also re downloads them. This stupid problem caused all these fuss and still unresolved, now i am re-updating movie database starting with a clean actor database and copy just photo file names from old database to new database. |

Any chance of improvement with that .Net memory limit? No actor pictures, no additional actor update, still having out of memory exception error, works fine for 5 mins and start giving errors after, made a new/clean import from XMM7 and re updated whole list. So DB is 0,97 GB now won't become smaller since i have at least 500 new movies waiting for import.
Please tell me if it is possible for me to use XMM in near future, since i don't want to waste anymore time, a simple Excel sheet will do the same job without keeping additional info which is the main charming feature for me to have. |

Nice to not have any answer !!!
I made latest .Net update from Microsoft and guess what, movie posters are not showing, made the last XMM update 5 mins ago, almost first 2000 movies was able show but when i clicked let's say record 2500 application closed itself.
Still waiting answers and hopefully solutions. |

| As a simple user I just can't say what to do. I'd need to reproduce the issue on my machine which I can't. While it's up to Ale to debug XMM I'd try to crash my test instance: could you post screenshots of your grid layouts? Maybe it gives an idea on what's possible to prevent the problem until Ale has time to jump in for the rescue. |
