Hi,

I got the same bloody out of memory problem since migrated from x86 machine with 4Gb RAM and WinXP to i5 machine with 8Gb RAM and Win7)))))))

The problem totally disappeared when i removed the QuickEdit panel, that was hidden behind Details panel.
I hope this helps to somebody.

BTW, my movies DB contains about 6,500 movies and 145,000 actors. Actor's pictures is shown in Movie Details.

Hi,

Couple of days ago, i've upgraded my machine with more RAM and reinstalled my OS. It's been a clean full install of x64 Windows 7 Pro. After that i start suffering from that nasty error!

I'm using XMM from many years on 32 bit Windows XP and 32 bit Windows 7 Pro and NEVER had this error.
Now when using it on x64 OS practically i can't manage my collection :( The error appreared at random stage - on quick edit window, when point to movie in the grid, when i save my database...

I have a quite big DB with more than 14k movies and 60k actors. I've reinstalled XMM, reinstalled twice .NET Framework , tried with 4.0 and 4.5.1 versions, updated them to the latest available patches - with no benefit.

I've done some research in Internet and found that maybe the problem is related with issue in x64 Vista/Win 7 about resizing nested windows:
http://www.devexpress.com/Support/Center/Question/Details/Q284346

Ale, can you take a look at code examples and explanations in the above link? I kindly ask to try to fix this error - it's make your application unusable in my case.

Thanks in advance.

Try to start XMM in XP Compatibility Mode if that will do the trick for you.
I use XMM with Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit myself without any errors.

In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.

Hi JDommi,

Yes, this will be the next thing which i will try - to run XMM in Compatibility mode. But i want to point that in last 4 years i'm using XMM only on Windows 7 32 bit WITHOUT this error.

Thank you.

EDIT: Running XMM with Compatibility Mode is even worse - the program has crashed with the same error in the moment when i click on the grid or open details panel of the movie.

Do you already have activated the debug mode in XMM? Maybe the log will show Ale a(nother) hint.

Hi there,

Any news about this issue? Anyone to find out a solution? I've tried many approaches but still haven't fix.

Ale, can you compile XMM as 64-bit application?

I'm wondering if this can be some limit because my DB is quite big - over 1,1 GB - and XMM s 32-bit application. As you know there some memory limitation for 32-bit application on x64 Windows.

Or maybe drivers used for connection to the database have some limitation?

I'm just throwing some ideas because what else to troubleshoot.

I'll appreaciate any help.

Thank you.

EDIT: I forgot to mention - sometimes during startup XMM throw an error 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown' or 'Error, missing drivers. You do not have the drivers for connect the database....'

What kind of drivers should i have? On 32-bit Windows i've never seen those messages. The system is patched with the latest updates.

I can't present a solution as I never have had such an error. But I know from some 32 bit programs running under windows 8 that they are best working in XP Service Pack 3 Compatibility Mode.

In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.

JDommi,

Compatibility Mode doesn't change anything in my case. How many movies you have or how big is your database?

By far not as big as yours. The database is only 240 MB with an amount of about 1400 movies and shows.
I normally have only 12 actors per movie therefor the actors table is not very big, too.

In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.

Hello Batrado end sorry for delay!

I can compile a x64 release for you to test.

Please write me a private email so I can send it to you.

Hello Ale,

With the 64-bit version of XMM you've provide me on the mail, all the issues have gone!

All the errors, exceptions, out of memory messages etc have gone!

With 32-bit version of XMM when open my DB, the application use 1.1 - 1.2 GB Commit memory. Now with the 64-bit version, it use more than 2-2.5 GB and have the opportunity to use the system resources by more effective way.

It seems that this version is perfect for users with larger databases and more physical memory.

I will continue the tests and if i spot something will give you a feedback.

Ale,

Your new 64-bit version seems to handle large databases without this mysterious "System Out of Memory Exception" problem. It probably needs more testing. Maybe you should upload it as a "Beta Version"

I'm curious when you would expect this memory problem to occur if running the 32-bit version of XMM? Is is likely to occur because:
1) your database is too large?
2) too many records (movies or people)?
3) particular operating system is a problem?
4) not enough computer memory?

I have not experienced this problem myself.
My XMM database is 735MB in size and contains 2760 records and about 50,000 people. My computer uses an Intel i5-3470 3.2Ghz Chip running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit with 16GB RAM memory.

It would be helpful if anyone who has experienced this problem to provide some basic specs on the size and record count of their XMM database as well as the type of computer, operating system and RAM. This might help identify at what point the Memory Problem occurs.
