Hi,

I just (well, over a week ago now!) had a complete PC disaster, had to do a complete reinstall of everything and stupidly hadn't backed up my 1200+ movie database! I have now almost got everything back to normal (and backed up!) but I really can't figure out how to reorganise the movie database view alphabetically.

Before it was automatic and every time I added new movies all I had to do was Collection Maintenance>MovieID Renumbering (Alphabetical) and it would automatically reorganise titles alphabetically as I want them to be but now it doesn't do anything and my titles are all over the place.

Is there something I can do to repair the issue?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Just go to the Tools menu and there select Database Maintanance -> Movies/TV Shows -> ID Renumbering (Alphabetically).

Beside that I don't understand why so many people want to renumber their collection alphabetically. It's only a waste of time and can cause problems under certain circumstances. The movie ID should only be an internal identifier or maybe used to show which movie is longer in my possession than another. If I wanna have the database sorted alphabetically then I only click on the column Title in the grid view and I have the wished result. That's my opinion...

In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.

I too do not bother to ID renumber as I've found that the pictures like cover/fanart/rear cover are not renamed to show the new ID number so for years now I have just left the renumbering alone. I did however have a problem in the older version days, when I imported my collection from collectorz when about 50% of the movies where all over the place and I just could not sort them alphabetically. What I found was that 50% had a space before the first letter of the title. I think it's worth checking because it's very easy to miss.

That's exactly what I did JDommi and it used to work but now it's not rearranging anything alphabetically and the whole layout stays the same...

I do it alphabetically so I can easily find a film and/or whether I've already got a title in my collection since I find the search function very slow. With over 1,200 films it's a lot easier just to scroll down than to use the search function and for that I need it alphabetical.

I also just find it looks better in alphabetical order! :)

I worked it out eventually. I had to change to Grid View, reorder the Movie IDs numerically and then change back to Thumbnail View.

I think, in general, most people would prefer titles listed alphabetically. It just seems natural since most libraries/catalogues in the world are listed alphabetically to facilitate searching.

Thanks for your help anyway.
