Hi, I try to solve a big problem - I didn't find a solution yet - even after searching the forum, and tried out different software solutions.
PROBLEM:
I have a very large movie database and named all files - various formats in this naming style.
Style:
last name, first name[; second director if necessary] (year) - orginal title [english title if necessary] [part if necessary]
Example:
Tarr, Béla; Ágnes Hranitzky (2011) - A torinói ló (The Turin Horse) CD1.avi
QUESTION:
there is no way to rename all movies to a simple title and year. Is there anyway way of using the device scanner or something automatical in EMM?
thx you very much in advance, sebastian
ps. i have a imdb watchlist, which i could import, but i would like to have a direct link to the file on my drive. |

sorry, this is a missunderstanding.
i will not give up a very well organized structure of movies for an added value software like emm. one folder with all movies (+6k) sorted by directors and years, is very comprehensive.
i want to use emm, instead of imdb lists, because the statistics and the list search are weak. also to prepare the database to be used and delivered to xmbc. |

In that case you could use firstly Ember media manager to create NFO's for each movie and the import them to XMM |

Hi dempan. I totally agree with you. I have been requesting this feature for ages; unfortunately, to no avail, even though there is a similar and working procedure for importing TV series.
Now, if you do not care about using XMM to play the files, there is a solution that may work for you, but you'll have to be a little carefull.
1. Install BulkRename and learn how to use it (it's easy to forget unticking used fields). 2. When you feel pretty sure of your competence, use it to rename all your files properly, BUT DO NOT CLOSE BULKRENAME and do not apply other changes. 3. Import the renamed files in XMM. 4. Go back to the BulkRename and press Ctrl+Z to Undo. Your files will go back to their original names.
This procedure will only help you to create a db of your films; the last step will disassociate the db entries from the files. If you need to play your files via XMM, you must keep the correct names and paths, so you could:
A. Avoid step 4 above. B. Run the magic scripts of your choice. C. Check thoroughly that the imported info is relevant to each movie. D. Use the renaming procedure inside XMM to rename your files as you like, using the fields completed by the script.
Personally, I have not been satisfied with the usability of the renaming procedure in both v7 and v8. It seems promising, but it doesn't deliver what I want - yet.
To sum it up, XMM is a good program, if a little cranky. I suggest you devote a little time experimenting before you give up on it.

You can read my answer at the topic "Issue Importing TV Series" http://www.binaryworks.it/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11363. I also had problems for the import and the automatic extraction of the data. I explain in my answer how i solved them. |

after trying a lot. i found no way actually. for ex.
"ember media manager", no results.
and than i found "media compendium" to create nfo, but the scape is weak. 40 % not found.
unfortunaly, the xml nfo's are not readable by emm8.
renaming my files differently is still a nogo, at all. oh gosh. now i use imdb with some userscripts like mymovies to have some added expierences. |
