Me again and the question about XMM 8!

More than a half year is gone and I ask myself again: is XMM 8 now ready to use?
I think no after I have read the thread from mawu from May. But maybe there was a wonder in between. I know that it is everybodys view if it's OK but I think a few of you can give me a hint if I stay better with XMM 7 or change to 8.

Thanks to all.

From my point of view of course XMM 8 is better, but I leave the answer to the other user

Better yes but is everything done, does the import from XMM 7 works correct, what have do be done by hand. There are a lot of questions here to read but I can't see if they are done without a lot of testing. See also my suggestion :)

@Saphir

I've just started a self test (see my other thread). It's really a pain to import the old xMM7 stuff. But I have to admit that's not only xMM8's fault, it's more the fact that most of the features requests concerning the data fields are now fulfilled. As a consequence it's necessary to build up the whole database almost completely new.

Hi Mawu

I have read your thread, this is also what I just thought. XMM 8 looks very good but the program is so different from XMM 7 that the import is not so easy to do. I think if the import will work correctly it's not possible to let the old database copy to the new one, the import program must be a big one which exactly know how to separate the old data und greate it in the new database. But how should this work if everyone has his data in a different way?

Do you think XMM 8 will be fine if I have done the import manually?
If I do the Import manually do you think it's better to start with an empty database or to reorganize the imported old database?

It depends. If you have all your movie stuff on the hard disk it is much easier than for people like me with a large collection of dvd and blu-ray. For me it's better to reorganize my old database as I have edited many movie data manually so that it's impossiible to re-import it from the web directly. With the help of Access I was able to move all the content into the right data fields. The next days I will update the IMDB stuff by script. For film features, dvd features and audio I have to do it manually (there seem to be a disorder between the access database and the arrangement of several items in the edit window - which makes the whole procedure a little bit complicated)and reading of dvd/blu-ray data didn't work six month ago.
I think when all the stuff is imported xMM8 provides many improved features (filters, treeview). And xMM7 is not perfect as well. As the switch to xMM8 will be very time-consuming for the next months double bookkeeping is called for.

Harddisk yes but my own DVDs and Blu-rays. I was in XXM 7 not able to import everything from disk and web, I have written a view things by hand for every movie. My movie collection is not so big but for me big enough to don't like it making everything new. What I could do is starting with an empty database, import a movie from the web and disk and than copy past my hand written things from XMM 7 by copy past... Sounds like the best thing to do.

After a view days of testing and getting my movies correct in to XMM 8 I can give me the answer by myself: XMM 8 has a lot of bugs and nobody knows whether or which time they are will be fixed. The import from XMM 7 does work but not really good, there are many things which must be done by hand. On one side this is because XMM 8 is to different to XMM 7 on the other side there are also things where I think this should actually work. Than there are tools from XMM 7 which are missing in XMM 8. XMM 8 has the chance to be a really good program but was far to early released. I have a good XMM 7 database but have now a lot of work with the same movies in XMM 8.
