I have been using a fully registered version of XMM (7.2.3.6), however I've just downloaded & installed the latest version 8. Can I authenticate this using the previous registration, and if so how do I do it ?

Yes, you can use your previous authentication key. To avoid any problems you should start XMM with admin rights and then enter your registration like before.
