Hi to All,
I want post some screenshot of the next generation of XMM, completely re-written from scratch in .NET technology. The New XMM will be more powerful, more fast and I hope more user-friendly.
For this reason I post here screenshot and write some characteristic, so you can write me your impressions and suggestions.
The ScriptEngine is at third generation, with new functions and variables, more quick in some procedures and will be able to natively support chains of scripts. (All old script will be supported of course)
Script now will have also Configurable Options, so every user will be able to configure scripts for their personal use.
The new engine is split in two parts : the first will find the direct link of a movie, the second will only download informations. This will allow you to select all links of movies in one shot and after download all informations when you want ('Batch Import Mode'). For example in the Actual XMM 4.8 you must, for every movie, 'double click' on the link fo the movie, wait the end of the information's download and then pass to the next movie...)
Please write me your impressions and suggestions!

that's great. it saves muuuch time when you add maaany movies. I think this will give XMM many new users, because it helps while you have a huge database (i.e. in Excel) and want to start using XMM!
And what I see in the screenshots: it's important to keep "Continue" buttons in the same place while importing movies and I can see it is done. As for me quickness is the priority :)
Seems like a good job, looking forward to the complete version :) |

Thank you very much Vonskee, I am trying to build the new XMM the more user-friendly and "quicker" as possible, without lose the powerful of 4.8
The new engine should solve the actual problems of XMM (I mean that you must wait until Engine has download all information for every movie).
You will be able also select more script at once (like old chains, but more "flexible").
In this new release will coexist the "quick" import and the "batch" import, and a new mode that I am trying to develop these days (I will write more details when I will sure that works )
Thank you!

Hi Alessio,
nice to hear that things will go on so quick. One suggestion for script engine: when I use scripts for cover download I have very often more than one hit (because there are several cover versions available on the corresponding web site). It should be possible to download all at once.
Bye Bye Mawu |

You mean download information from more than one link? This can be al really good idea, should be also not difficult to do with new engine.
Thank you!
Alessio
PS: The develop of the XMM 5.0 is more faster than I expect, I hope to release it before end of January |

First i wan't to say that XMM is the best catalog tool for movies.
I'm wondering isn't it possible to write a export funktion to a pda device. This would be very great, now i export to excel and view this on my pda. Maybe one day this is possible in a new version of XMM.
Keep up the good work !! |

Hi to All, I want post new screenshots of new XMM 5.0
The new ScriptEngine is Completed! I have work hard these days but worth the pain.
As you can see in first picture now Scripts support Options (at the right), that users can quickly set by double click on it. This is a great improvement because can help you to customize scripts (like numbers of actors to download, numbers of posters, Fields format etc...). At this time every script can have 20 different options, that should be enough for now.
http://www.binaryworks.it/extrememoviemanager/images/dotnetpreview/preview3.jpg
In the second screenshot you can see the new window where you select the "direct links" of the movie (in the XMM 4.8 is the list that you must double-click to start import informations). Here you can select more that one link, and if you decide to import information from more that one script, here you will see ALL links, so you can select more that one source in one shot.
In this phase XMM will not download informations but only "Direct Links" to the movie, the next step, BATCH IMPORT, will download everything automatically (so you can do this when you sleep )
http://www.binaryworks.it/extrememoviemanager/images/dotnetpreview/preview4.jpg
In the Third Screenshot you can see the Batch Import Window at work. You can see that the middle column of the grid contains the "old" values in the movie, so only new data will be added (anyway there is a configurator for this).

Please write me suggestions and impressions here in the forum.
Thank you,
Alessio

Great news Alessio !
What i could be great is for starring, director, etc... (all fields with people inside) we have a record by people in the database and not one string with all information inside as previous versions of XMM. With that, it will be easier to make search and you could for example use a table field to show information in the XMM main windows. Same thing for genres : it will be better if we have one record by genre than a string with "Sci-Fi/Thriller" for example because after it's too difficult to make search to find movie by genres.
If you need more information about my suggestion, don't hesitate.

Hi Cyrille,
You are right about this, but It's not easy to do.
You know that there are tons of actors with the same, so when you "link" a movie with an actor, you are right it's the right one?
The problem can be "fixed" if you import information only with IMDB, the actors as you know have the (I), (II) that identify uniquely, but for the others websites? I really don't know how to do this.
Maybe I can improve better the fact that if you double-click in an actor in the "starring" field, in the actors section only these actors will be selected (I hope you understand my terrible english).
Bye!
Alessio
For example, if you "link" a movie with an actor, there can be much actors with same name in the database, so, what |

Hi Alessio!
Some further suggestions concerning script engine and webimport: -support for import of further data formats, e.g. avi/mpeg (Trailers), txt/doc/pdf/zip/... (movie scripts like on http://www.script-o-rama.com/, nfo-files, subtitles like on http://www.subtitles.de/)? -option to import specific data into the custom fields, e.g. when I like to import the name of the production designer into custom field 1 (with IMDB script) -possibility to grab specific dvd info like subtitles, available languages etc via script (therefore dvd managment should be improved in general) - cast import: separation of actor and role and storage in a table (like in Movie Collector or Movie Library)
Bye bye Mawu |

Hi Mawu,
The new XMM can download also Files (like the old), but I am trying to make it more powerful.
Now you can also import all custom fields (not only 10 & 11), so will be able to store here all others informations you want.
About actors I will try to do something, but I haven't work on it yet.
Thank you!

It looks great. You have already answer a question about importing custom files. Just keep on mind 'exporting' them as well. |

Regarding online scripts I would suggest that the user could select which ones he is interest ond and which he is not so at selecting scripts only those he is interested on (and the new ones) were shown. It would be a similar behaviour as we have in the offline scripts |

Hi,
For script I have in mind to make a "LiveUpdate" feature (like online mode now, but more complex), where people can select the script want update and download, without take all the others).
I will post some new screenshot in few hours
The MagicScript, has I wrote, is finished. The main Window is ready at 90% (for movies), I must work on TV Series and actors, and all export and import features.
