Almost every time I try to edit a movie the system locks up. I am using Windows 7. XMM version 9.0.0.9 32 bit.

Did you already have tried to re-install XMM?
As I never have recognized that I only can guess a few possibilities:
1. The database is too big or needs a Compact & Repair
2. Harddisk or temp folder too full
3. Your antivirus slows down XMM
In order to achieve what is possible, you have to try the impossible over and over again.
