I am running the latest version of EMM on WIN XP Pro.
I have problems adding movies using the IMDB.com script. Sometimes they work and sometimes not - approx 50% success rate.

When if fails I get the following message
"Unable to read data from the transport connection. An existing connection was forcibly closed by remote host.57"

When I click Ok on this it issues another message

"Error downloading of #OPENNEWWEBPAGE# are you still connected? Please take a look if your firewall is blocking Extreme movie Manager"

When I click on this the program either hangs and stops responding and I have to forcibly close it or it gets some more data and repeats the above messages. If it chooses to repeat the messages they may repeat for 3 or more times before the movie info is finished.

If the program crashs I have no real hope of getting movie info from IMDB to work without rebooting the computer.

Any ideas why this should be happening.
BTW - I have used every new update of IMDB.COM but this problem has has been with me since V5 came out.

Regards

Sean

It doesn't sound like a firewall issue to me. Have you got .NET Framework v2.0 installed? You need that particular version to run XMM. Download from here: http://snipurl.com/whon in case you've got an older version. But you'll need to uninstall XMM first, then install .NET v2.0 before you can reinstall XMM.

Are there any clues in Event Viewer? Go to Start --> Run, type: eventvwr.msc and click OK to launch it. Then open both the "Application" and "System" submenus. You're looking for events which are prefixed by either a yellow exclamation mark or a red X. Open those to get more info. You'll usually find they contain a link to Microsoft which may offer more info. You can also check the data on Microsoft's "Event and Errors Message Center" here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/support/ee/ee_advanced.aspx
Use the "Event ID" and "Source" which are respectively, the 4th and 6th columns in the "Application" and "System" submenus.

To make sure it isn't a firewall issue, ALT+TAB will take you to the desktop and if your firewall is blocking the connection, you'll see something like this:

Graphics card: HIS X800XL Ice-Q PCI Express 256MB RAM

PSU: Enermax CoolerGiant 600W

Thank you very much for your reply.
Yes I have NET Framework V2 installed.
My firewall does not block XMM

I entered Event Viewer and sure enough I had 4 red error codes for yesterday on the application submenu
When I double clicked on it the event properties said. "Hanging application eXtreme Movie Manager.exe, version 5.3.9.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000."
All four instances had the same message but the times they occured were different, ranging from 2pm to 8pm yesterday.

I clicked on the link but Microsoft said they had no results

The system submenu had no error codes for the same time period.

I tried your link to Microsoft Tech support and filled out the online form, but they again reported no results.

Thank you once again for your effort.

That error message means the application is hanging because something else is interfering with XMM, the most likely culprit being spyware. You can download the free version of an anti-spyware application called "ZeroSpyware" from here: http://www.download.com/ZeroSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10549969.html The program also includes a rootkit utility to show any malware running which is normally hidden from the operating system.

Another useful utility is an application called "What's Running" which you can download from here: http://www.whatsrunning.net/whatsrunning/main.aspx It will show you what's running in the background together with very detailed information on each process and should help you track down the culprit(s).

I tried all you said but still the XMM gave out error messages.

I even tried it in Safe Mode and got the same result.

Then I went back to normal XP Pro and seeing that a lot of the errors were #OPENNEWWEBPAGE# ones I looked at my browser.
I have both IE and Firefox with Firefox my default browser. I then made IE my default and the application worked without problem.

Again thank you for all your help

Sean

Hi Guys, and sorry for my late reply, I was on holidays

Seem that only IMDB have this problem. For an unknown reason, sometimes IMDB website doesn't send any data, this cause the #OPENNEWWEBPAGE# error.

I will try to modify XMM to "ignore" automatically such errors.

With others script there are no problems.

Thank you!
