Hi,

I'm trying to (re)-install XMM under Vista Ultimate. Unfortunately, I can't even do that now!!!

Seems we are going backwards in problems/compatibly etc. these days..shame I was a positive user of XMM, but my patience is wearing thin these days.

I have downloaded XMM V5.8.2.0 full version twice (just in case a file was corrupt...but still get the same error.

I have also tried installing normal and as Administrator...

I get the following error and Retry or ignore results in the same.

Is XMM REALLY Vista compatible

P.S (Userdocs) If this is referring to my data location this is on my D: drive.

The only problem i hav in Windows Vista is:
I cant update movue infos over the internet with the scripts. The manager doesn't find any of the scripts. Editing the database works perfectly. So everytime i gez a new movie, i have to start my virtual XP-System, oben the database and adding the movie in this enviroment. I saw that somebody else here had the "noscripts available"-problem here, too, but i can't fix this yet.

Hello,
I have strange problem with Windows 7. When I'm importing info using IMDB (complete) script, only first movie receive full info. For all other movies, actors and movie info are same as first one. Few days ago I made new clean Win 7 installation. On my work computer I use Win XP and I don't have this problem.
Regards.

On Win 7, XMM installs on "My Documents" folder.
I used Win 7 from few mounts and didn't have this problem before. I have one base for XP and Win 7 installations. Problems started when my system HDD died and I made new clean installation and new base.

Many technology professionals believe IT certifications reached their peak during the height of the dot-com boom. But such a mindset may well prove shortsighted. The subsequent dot-com bomb led to an exodus of certified technicians from the industry. Then, as the dust settled, IT certifications were reworked. Accreditations were better mapped to real-world needs and expertise. Program flaws were eliminated. Training programs improved.642-825
Now, in turbulent economic times, IT certifications will provide more relevance than ever before. With unprecedented bailouts, widespread cost and workforce reductions, and a slew of new platforms being released, IT accreditations will assume renewed importance in 2010. Here are 10 reasons why IT certifications will prove important in 2010.
#1: Job retention
Organizations are laying off employees at alarming levels. When wildly successful franchises such as the National Football League downsize 10 percent, you know the economy’s in trouble.
#2: Salary maintenance
Many organizations — and city and state governments in particular — are asking employees to accept salary reductions. Whereas staff may have grumbled over a scant four or five percent salary increase a few years ago, today many are being asked to cut their compensation by those amounts.
#3: Hiring and promotion eligibility
Despite the economic downturn, some companies are still hiring. Others are actively promoting from within. Recent headlines prove medical facilities, health insurance companies, and manufacturers, among others, continue expansion efforts.
#4: Career improvement
Many technology professionals feel they’ve done all they can do as a support technician or network administrator. They may be working in positions where they’ll receive no additional responsibilities, pay, or challenges unless they move up the corporate ladder.
#5: New-generation certs increase relevance
Certifications are receiving a boost from considerable reworking. Many organizations, including CompTIA and Cisco, are revamping and redesigning exams and instructional initiatives. And Microsoft really stands out due to the variety and impact of changes made to its training and certification program.
#6: Organizations will become more discriminating
Consultants can benefit from IT certifications in 2010, too. As clients more closely guard expenses and become more discerning, organizations needing to outsource computer services and support will want to ensure the firms and technicians they hire are competent. IT certifications are a great method for consultants to demonstrate their skill, knowledge, and expertise to potential clients.
#7: New products will gain momentum
A slew of new products is sure to gain momentum in 2010. Microsoft’s 2008-branded server products lead the charge of new technologies that will gain market share throughout the year.
#8: Organizations must minimize downtime
Server, desktop, and network downtime, as well as mean times to repair, must improve. This is true for most every organization, but especially for those that have reduced staff, as fewer employees are available to pick up the slack when errors or failures occur.642-812
#9: Organizations need to reduce costs
When sales or funding levels dive, reducing operating costs becomes critical. During periods of recession, organizations are obligated to maximize efficiency. As a result, productivity requirements become greater for each worker.642-357
#10: Confidence proves handy during turbulent times
If nothing else, during periods of stress and upheaval, it helps to have confidence. While you can’t insulate yourself from major economic trends, you can leverage certifications to know you’ve taken prudent steps to keep skills current and make yourself an attractive employee, both to your current employer and to prospective hiring managers, should a pink slip arrive.640-802
With numerous other factors seemingly out of your control, IT certifications present at least one element you can command. In an age of unprecedented business and economic turmoil, the resulting confidence boost can only help. If an employer understands what they’re looking for, then they just need to look for a person with the appropriate exam numbers. The syllabuses are set to exacting standards and aren’t allowed to deviate (like academia frequently can and does). After reading this article if your are planning to take advance your career and seeking best online training Testkingdom.com is only IT online training provider that provide the all I.T. training including complete MCITP Training exams training in just one package. Dear Alessio,
I just started testing your Programm (Version 7.0.7.1) and it seems to be very good. But I had to realise, that XMM doesn't work properly on windows, because you didn't implement the windows user folders properly.

All the settings are lost, from one use to another and the sample Data ist not readable, because it is stored in the Programfolder (%Programfiles%\extrem Movie Manager)and not a %username%\Appdata\XMM folder for example. That means, your program ist only working properly as an admin. Of course I could change NTFS rights to get it working, but much better would be a installation routine and program concept, which stores user data in the user folders.
And as it seems, XMM does not even install itself in to the %Programfiles% folder by default.

Running software as an admin is dangerous and I usually do not use any software not capable running as a standard windows user. And from reading this thread I don't see much advance in the problem, because it startet 2006 and untill today you haven't implimentet the windows user sceme. At least it is not working under XP SP3 Prof with my system.
If you would at least give an option, where to store the settings in your options dialog, than one could choose a folder accessible.
But the best thing would be, installing by default into the %Programfiles% folder and writing all the data, the user can change and the config files into the users %appdata% folder or under the HKCU registry tree. Like it is meant to be.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is a very good software, but it is hard to decide to buy it, when such elementaries don't function.

P.S.: After changing rights for quite a few files in the programfolder, it is holding the settings, but it is not loading Internet data without running as admin. Which is realy sad, that an otherwise very good program, can only run als administrator.

Dear Alessio,
from reading your forum, I found out, that you used to have the users Data in its designated folders but changed it recently. I guess that was to make XMM portable. Wouldn't it have been better leaving it, like it used to be at least for a normal installation.
For Users who want a portable XMM there could have been an choice either in the installation process or later, in the options menu, where to choose XMM settings and data saving place, either to the users folder, the registry or to the programfolder. This way a windows conform installation would have been possible when needed.

Hi,
after most recent update, XMM keeps crashing. It happens usually when saving & exiting the edit screen or when I click on a movie (either to view or edit). No error message, it just shuts down. Has something changed in the latest release that could cause this?

Hello,

Do you say just close itself without any error messages or windows error?

That's exactly what I'm saying.
When digging around, looks like it was XMM Update process that crashed, taking the whole app down.

OK, a few details: looks like this happens when I'm adding a movie and I let it read files from external HDD that has stopped running after being idle for some time. It comes alive and XMM reads the file but when saving & exiting it saves the item alright but instead of closing update window and going back to database the program crashes.

UPDATE: It happens even if the HDD is still running. So the codec reader is the culprit in general. All files in question are ISO files. And it happens ONLY when I check extracting a frame from the file. OK, I pinpointed the murderer, now it's your turn. :-)
