I don't mind at all. Careful with all the questions I ask, you'll start to think, he's blond. Wait I am. LOL |

I'd just like to say I'm having the same problem as the original poster. I can't get any actor pictures to import unless doing so one at a time (with over 2000 films in the database). I had this problem a few months ago and then it was fixed but it seems to be back. Using latest build. It doesn't seem like there has been a definitive solution via this thread either yet. |

I will try to reproduce that later when I'm back from work. It's all by using IMDB complete script? |

I'm like you working on a rather large database of 1800+. What I did as a temporary work around was to do a fresh full install of the lastest version running as administrator under Windows. I've noticed a pattern this happens more if you use a large amount of films that you are trying to update. I do five or six at a time.
It appears to be a logic problem within Magic Script and we are waiting on a response from Ali.

I always have done (at the beginning) 20-50 movies at one time. Without problems. |

I would love to but unfortuately that doesn't work. You pretty much have to babysit it so you know which movies don't get updated correctly. People who are adding a few movies probably wouldn't notice it which is why there probably haven't been more posts. It would appear those of us who are trying to convert large databases over notice it.
This problem seems to isolated to the actors section. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that just tweaked recently to add something like 25 actors? I'm wondering if it's that logic that is causing this new problem as techdls stated it did work when I started building my first database a few weeks ago.

I don't know as I only have used the imdb for actors script only despite the imdb fastest since 2 or 3 weeks (but only for the custom fields)... |

IMDB actors has its own issues and needs to be looked at. I need to do some more testing with it before I can do a detailed post. I touched on it briefly in another post. Things like field names are wrong on the screen. Example: when updating just actors the button should say skip this actor not skip this movie. That's confusing.
Without clearing the direct links and you have them from your other downloads why doesn't it use those instead of trying to redownload new ones and stating it can't find them or give you a selection when the detail is already there?
or
Why does it say movie not in database when downloading actors? It is and they are and I didn't add them there, they were downloaded.

The thing with the wrong labeled buttons I have informed Ale a long time ago. There are several "optical" bugs. The direct links ARE working as long as title AND year are corresponding. I have tried that and it works. In some cases one of these info doesn't fit and therefor I have suggested to implement an option to take the imdb link (from Custom8) directly without any further checkings. Have you seen the advanced script option "Take direct link from Custom8"? |

Sorry for the delay in responding I was working on some documentation cause someone was twisting my arm, hmmmms.
That's an excellent suggestion. While you and I love the technical aspects, the average PC user isn't going to understand the vast functions. They will just want to be able to get the information they want. I try to think about that when offering ideas. If we keep it simple enough it will sell more and support the guys working on it.
Sadly to say there is a large group that are not program smart who want just want basic do what I think your supposed to too. There is so much to this program they get lost. Take my example of movie and actor. They see that then say this doesn't work and walk away.
Yes I did see the take direct link and mine is set to take. But is that used even when I say clear direct links as you suggested to solve my problem with the 0/9 script problem?

Already in there:
[Match Year Directlink Engine]
A bit wrong labeled, but if set to:
0=do NOT use Year with Intelligent Directlink Engine
Nothing is checked with the C8 Field with the exception that it is a imdb.com link |

Of course. Clear direct link clears only the link of the "previously used scripts". To explain the intelligent direct link function you better ask Ale or Prinz as they have the better knowledge on that. I know from all a little bit but nothing really good... I'm the interested amateur
*Edit* As I said: Prinz is better informed! |

I think there is another Bug in XMM. I had now a few times a new Dialog open during import that the script is not responding, asking me if i wont to abort the import. There is no reason for this Dialog. And this Dialog isn't shown On Top! So you can easily not see it and think that XMM has stopped responding.
It's being happing for the last few versions including the current version from yesterday. At moment i can't even import 1 Movie without sometimes multiple interruptions.

Nick, thanks for the windows tweaks and the script tweaks. This thing is smoking I've been able to update 143 movies in about 27 minutes. The awards sections if fast too. Thanks for your help. Owe you dinner and some brews.

Well, yesterday I have updated about 3000 of my actors and I had only 6 error messages correlating to the pics and 2 times a warning about something like "line too <small>" (can't remember the exact words). As info I have done the update from 80 to 300 actors at a time!
That Browser message by Prinz: I know that message only from Firefox in some cases. It occurs (for me) only on sql (php?) orders via internet. I don't know what it is exactly but everytime when a database access takes too long time. |

Yes, I had that too or an error takepic then it did. That to me is site errors cause if you go back and update those actors it works fine. I think it's like a blip in the internet transmission. I've never seen his error before. Of course I had to translate it to follow along. =)
I'm researching and working with Microsoft on the update errors. When you use the update option instead of the full download when upgrading you get some of the errors that people are talking about in other posts. Its like some of the update files in the pack aren't overlaying the existing. I would like to think that's automatic but it doesn't appear to be. Also seems to be on the newer versions of Windows and the new hardware.
When it says must close to update and starts the install there are some items still in memory and windows thinks they are being used. Like the scanning for movies on your hard drive. One of tips from Nick was to shut that off if you are not using it. For some reason and I noticed it too I've had 3 or 4 running in the background when I shut down EMM and restart later.
I split my databases up so that is a separate database. I may not want to import to the database I'm currently working on.
I don't know how much memory you have on your PC. But I downloaded a free ram driver software package and created a ram disk in memory and put a copy of database there and started updating it flew and kept up with my internet connection. I'm working with 24g memory and 32g broadband. I can email you a link to the software if you want to "play". LOL
*Edit* Hopefully people will realize some of these errors aren't EMM related just the way things get handled within the OS.
