If you don't want to see the card all the time then close it. I don't think that much user would use this function. But if Ale will implement that option I would suggest to put a button on the grid that simply opens/closes the card or moved it to front/back.

I hate to mention another movie database program but you could do a button similar that Movie Collector has.
It's one that's slides the main contents to the right and i think they have vertical ones as well when you use different layouts.
I'm not really sure it's been awhile since used a version, bought one years ago and when they switched so you could only get information from their dedicated site, i stopped using it. Plus if i wanted updated version of the program i had to buy it again (with some discount i think). And then i found XMM and never looked back.

P.s I think fege needs a better translator. greed had me wondering for a while.
Could you also add a check box in the settings to allow the user to determine if they want this functionality. I myself prefer having the Card visible all the time with the grid.
